Arum wants the Cotto-Foreman winner to fight Margarito

Image: Arum wants the Cotto-Foreman winner to fight MargaritoBy Dan Ambrose: If Top Rank promoter Bob Arum is able to put together the fight between his fighter Manny Pacquiao against Floyd Mayweather Jr. in November, then Arum would like for the June 5th winner between his two Top Rank fighters Miguel Cotto vs. WBA junior middleweight champion Yuri Foreman to fight yet another one of his Top Rank fighters Antonio Margarito next. It’s a win-win situation for the 78-year-old Arum if he can get these fights taken care of because the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight will likely be the biggest in boxing history with the biggest paydays for those involved.

Cotto has to beat Foreman to keep alive his rematch hopes against Pacquiao

Image: Cotto has to beat Foreman to keep alive his rematch hopes against PacquiaoBy Chris Williams: Miguel Cotto (34-2, 27 KO’s) is moving up in weight to take on the little known WBA light middleweight champion Yuri Foreman (28-0, 8 KO’s) on June 5th, at the Yankee Stadium, in the Bronx, New York. Cotto, 29, is doing this to try and capture the WBA title and make himself more appealing for a rematch against Manny Pacquiao, who easily defeated Cotto by a 12th round knockout last November. The thought of a rematch between Cotto and Pacquiao is more than a little nauseating if you’re the average fan who is interested in watching a competitive fight.

Martirosyan vs. Green on Cotto-Foreman undercard: Does this card lack punch?

By Chris Williams: In looking at the undercard of the June 5th bout between WBA junior middleweight champion Yuri Foreman vs. challenger Miguel Cotto, I can’t see much there that’s appealing besides the main event. The one notable fight on the undercard is unbeaten light middleweight contenders Vanes Martirosyan (27-0, 17 KO’s) vs. Joe Greene (22-0, 14 KO’s) for the NABF light middleweight title. That’s a decent fight, but not all that interesting. I wasn’t at all impressed with Martirosyan’s controversial 10 round unanimous decision win over Kassim Ouma in January 2010. I thought Ouma had done more than enough to win the fight.

Arum needs to get Cotto, Foreman or Margarito ready to fight Pacquiao in case Mayweather fight doesn’t happen

Image: Arum needs to get Cotto, Foreman or Margarito ready to fight Pacquiao in case Mayweather fight doesn't happenBy Jason Kim: It’s looking like a potential fight between WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. might not happen unless Pacquiao is willing to agree to the full random blood tests, which he previously hasn’t been willing to do, and accept a smaller cut of the revenue. Those things seem pretty simple for an average fighter to do, since they would realize that, in the end, it would be well worth it to accept a slightly smaller purse split and agree to the troubles of having their blood and urine tested periodically in order to get a huge payday of around $40 million.

Will Cotto retire if he loses to Foreman on June 5th?

Image: Will Cotto retire if he loses to Foreman on June 5th?By Dan Ambrose: Former WBO welterweight champion Miguel Cotto (34-2, 27 KO’s) has an important bout against WBA light middleweight champion Yuri Foreman (28-0, 5 KO’s) next month on June 5th at Yankee Stadium, in New York. Cotto can ill afford to lose this fight, because he’s already been beaten in two of his last four bouts and for him to remain relevant in the boxing world, he has to beat Foreman. This is a fighter that appears to have been carefully selected for Cotto to move up and have a high degree of success in beating.

12 thousand tickets sold for Cotto-Foreman, Arum hoping 30,000 will eventually be sold

Image: 12 thousand tickets sold for Cotto-Foreman, Arum hoping 30,000 will eventually be soldBy Chris Williams: It looks like Top Rank promoter Bob Arum overestimated the interest in the upcoming June 5th bout between his two Top Rank fighters World Boxing Association junior middleweight champion Yuri Foreman (28-0, 8 KO’s) and former WBO welterweight champion Miguel Cotto (34-2, 27 KO’s), both of whom will be fighting at the 50,000 seat Yankee Stadium, in the Bronx, New York.

Foreman is the underdog, but shouldn’t it be Cotto?

Image: Foreman is the underdog, but shouldn’t it be Cotto?By Jim Dower: WBA junior middleweight champion Yuri Foreman (28-0, 8 KO’s) is the underdog going into his June 5th fight against former World Boxing Organization welterweight champion Miguel Cotto (34-2, 27 KO’s) at the Yankee Stadium, in Bronx, New York. However, there’s an argument to be made that it should be the 29-year-old Cotto who should be the underdog in this fight, not Foreman. After all, Cotto has taken a career’s worth of punishment in three of his last fights against Antonio Margarito, Joshua Clottey and Manny Pacquiao and there’s question whether Cotto has all that much left in the tank.

Cotto will have problems with Foreman’s punch and grab technique

Image: Cotto will have problems with Foreman’s punch and grab techniqueBy Jim Dower: Miguel Cotto (34-2, 27 KO’s) is going to have major problems with WBA light middleweight champion Yuri Foreman (28-0, 8 KO’s) on June 5th. Cotto might have made a big mistake of taking on Foreman. Cotto might have seen Foreman’s low knockout percentage and some of his dull fights, which include a great deal of clinching, and figured that he had an easy mark to pick up a quick title. However, Foreman is anything but easy, especially for a small welterweight like Cotto. This is going to be a huge problem for Cotto to not only figure out a way to deal with Foreman’s side but also his movement and his clinch and grab technique.

Cotto-Foreman: Will Steward make any difference for Miguel?

By Jason Kim: Miguel Cotto (34-2, 27 KO’s) recently picked up a new trainer with Emanuel Steward, who is said to be tinkering with the fighting style of Cotto and trying to improve his punching and defensive flaws. Cotto will be facing Yuri Foreman (28-0, 8 KO’s) on June 5th at the Yankee Stadium, in the Bronx, New York. Cotto has lost two out of his last four bouts, and not looked particularly good on defense. Steward thinks that he can help him. I’m not so sure he can. Cotto is basically a slugger, and that’s what has made him so successful during his career. At light welterweight, the 5’7” Cotto was an awesome puncher.
