Donaire vs. Darchinyan 2 in doubt for November 9th

donaire12352By Chris Williams: Top Rank are looking to put together a rematch that is way past it’s expiration date in Nonito Donaire v. Vic Darchinyan 2 on November 9th in Texas. The fight could possibly not take place, because Darchinyan, 37, doesn’t want to move up to the featherweight division to face Donaire.

Darchinyan prefers that the fight take place at super bantamweight or a catch-weight of 124, but it doesn’t look like that’s going to happen judging by the comments of Donaire’s manager Cameron Dunkin. It looks like they’re ready to walk away from the Darchinyan fight.

Rigondeaux’s manager targeting Frampton, Mares, Darchinyan, Agbeko, more!

rigondeaux655By Chris Williams: With Bob Arum of Top Rank choosing to steer his fighter Nonito Donaire towards a rematch against Vic Darchinyan, Gary Hyde, the manager for WBA/WBO super bantamweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux (12-0, 8 KO’s), is targeting the following super bantamweights for Rigondeaux to fight next according to Fightnews: Carl Frampton, Abner Mares, Joseph Agbeko, Akifumi Shimodo, and Vic Darchinyan.

Arum told Dan Rafael yesterday that HBO isn’t interested in televising Rigondeaux’s bout. However, they are interested in televising Donaire’s next fight against Darchinyan in November. Why is HBO televising Donaire’s fight and not Rigondeaux’s fight? HBO has things backwards. It’s supposed to be the winner that has his fights televised, not the loser.

Donaire to face Darchinyan in November

donaire222By Chris Williams: Nonito Donaire (31-2, 20 KO’s) will be facing 37-year-old Vic Darchinyan (39-5-1, 28 KO’s) in November rather than facing the guy that just badly schooled him in Guillermo Rigondeaux.

Donaire had said that he wanted to avenge his 12 round unanimous decision loss to Rigondeaux next, but Donaire’s promoter Bob Arum of Top Rank has other ideas for the Filipino instead of putting him back in with the highly skilled and much faster Cuban fighter.

Arum said to the Manila Standard, “It’s likely to happen sometime in November.”

Darchinyan vs. Donaire 2 possible for later this year

donaire012By Chris Williams: A long awaited rematch between 38-year-old Vic Darchinyan (39-5-1, 28 KO’s) and the recently beaten Nonito Donaire (31-2, 20 KO’s) is possible for later on this year, according to the Manila Standard.

Their mutual promoter Bob Arum of Top Rank wants to finally put the Darchinyan vs. Donaire rematch together. Never mind the fact that the fight is six years too late at this point; Arum still wants to make the fight. I can’t say it’s the fight that it would have been years ago because I can’t.

Darchinyan stops Gallo

darchinyan4334By Jim Dower: #3 WBC 122 lb. contender Vic Darchinyan (39-5-1, 28 KO’s) potentially put himself in position for a world title shot tonight in beating Javier Gallo (18-7-1, 10 KO’s) in an easy fourth round knockout at the Uni-Trade Stadium, in Laredo, Texas, USA.

Darchinyan, 37 knocked Gallo down four times in the fight, 3 times in the 2nd round, and a final time in the 4th round. The fight was halted at 0.26 of the fourth round.

It’s good that Darchinyan won the fight, but he was stunned once in the fight by the little known Gallo and that’s not a good sign for Darchinyan with him wanting to get a title shot against WBC super bantamweight champion Victor Terrazas.

Weights: Darchinyan 123.5, Gallo 123.25

darch1By Allan Fox: 37-year-old former two division world champion Vic Darchinyan (38-5-1, 27 KO’s) successfully weighed in on Friday for his fight tomorrow night against Javier Gallo (18-6-1, 10 KO’s) for their fight at the Uni-Trade Stadium in Laredo, Texas.

Darchinyan, #3 WBC, came in at 123.5 pounds, and his opponent 29-year-old Gallo weighed in at 123.25 lbs. This will be the first fight for Darchinyan with Top Rank Promotions and there’s talk of him possibly facing newly crowned WBC super bantamweight champion Victor Terrazaz next, although former IBF/WBO super bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire might be the one that ultimately gets the shot against Terrazaz.

Darchinyan unhappy with Donaire for not fighting him

darchinyan433By Chris Williams: 37-year-old Vic Darchinyan (38-5-1, 27 KO’s) thinks WBO super bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire is ducking him, and he believes he’ll beat him if he agrees to face him. Donaire’s team had been thinking about facing Darchinyan next if they weren’t able to line up a unification fight against WBA super bantamweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux, but they were able to agree to a fight against the Cuban on April 13th in New York.

It looks like Darchinyan didn’t take the news too well judging by his comments. Darchinyan said to fightnews.com “Nonito got lucky in 2007, but it would be a different result in 2013. Prove that you’re not scared of me…Prove to me you’re not chicken.”

Darchinyan ready to face Donaire on April 13th if Rigondeaux doesn’t

darch2By Dan Ambrose: 37-year-old Vic Darchinyan (38-5-1, 27 KO’s) is ready and willing to step in for WBA World super bantamweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux to face Top Rank fighter WBO super bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire (31-1, 20 KO’s) on April 13th at Madison Square Garden, in New York.

According to Steve Kim, Rigondeaux has been offered $750,000 to face Donaire on April 13th, but there appears to be some problems that are keeping the fight from getting made. Its likely Donaire and his promoter Bob Arum will quickly move on and face Darchinyan instead on that date.

Arum: Darchinyan still in mix for Donaire’s April 13th fight

darchinyan4534By Chris Williams: Top Rank promoter Bob Arum says 37-year-old Vic Darchinyan (38-5-1, 27 KO’s) is still a possibility for his fighter WBO super bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire’s next fight on April 13th on HBO. Arum said to 8countnews.com that he and Donaire will decide in the next day or two whether to go with Darchinyan, whose career is really sagging in a major way, or the unbeaten and clearly more dangerous WBA World super bantamweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux (11-0, 8 KO’s).

Donaire says he’s still very much interested in the Darchinyan fight for some reason. Why he’s still interested is really the big question because Darchinyan has lost two out of his last three fights.

Darchinyan proves nothing in beating Del Valle

Image: Darchinyan proves nothing in beating Del ValleBy Allan Fox: Former two division world champion Vic Darchinyan (38-5-1, 27 KO’s) moved up in weight to the super bantamweight division last night to defeat an inexperienced and some would say a badly ove-hyped #7 WBA, #12 WBC, #10 IBF, #11 WBO, Louis Del Valle (16-1, 11 KO’s)) by a 10 round unanimous decision by the scores of 98-91, 98-91 and 96-91.

Darchinyan was quoted by fightnews.com as saying “I’m back! I feel good at this weight.”

However, Darchinyan is kidding himself if he thinks he’s going to end up a champion at this weight. At flyweight and super flyweight, Darchinyan was a huge puncher and was able to dominate his opposition with his power and sheer aggressiveness.
