Darchinyan easily beats Del Valle

Image: Darchinyan easily beats Del Valle(Picture: Edward Diller – DiBella Entertainment/Star Boxing) By Jim Dower: Previously unbeaten Louis Del Valle (16-1, 11 KO’s) was considered to be too young, too strong and too talented for the old veteran 36-year-old Vic Darchinyan (38-5-1, 27 KO’s)n going into their fight tonight at the MGM Grand at Foxwoods Resort, in Mashantucket, Connecticut.

But Darchinyan ended up dominating the 25-year-old Del Valle, beating him by a lopsided 10 round unanimous decision by the judges’ scores of 99-91, 99-91 and 96-94. Forget the last score, because there’s no way Del Valle, who resembled more of a punching bag than a fighter, fought well enough to lose by only two points. He was completely dominated by Darchinyan in every area of the game and ended up taking an enormous amount of heavy shots to the head and body in losing this fight.

Edwin Rodriguez destroys Escalera; Darchinyan defeats Del Valle

Image: Edwin Rodriguez destroys Escalera; Darchinyan defeats Del Valle(Picture: Edward Diller – DiBella Entertainment/Star Boxing) By Jim Dower: Unbeaten super middleweight contender Edwin Rodriguez (22-0, 15 KO’) took care of his overmatched opponent Jason Escalera (13-1-1, 12 KO’s) in stopping him in the 8th round on Saturday night on HBO at the MGM Grand at Foxwoods Resort, in Mashantucket, Connecticut, United States. Rodriguez, #3 WBC, #4 IBF, #8 WBA, was hammering the near helpless Escalera at will in the 8th round when referee Steve Smoger decided he’d seen enough and stepped in and halted the fight at 0:12 of the 8th.

Escalera was supposed to be competitive with the 27-year-old Rodriguez but he wasn’t at all. HBO misjudged this fight and I imagine they wish they had never agreed upon televising this mismatch because wasn’t competitive at all. Rodriguez had Escalera hurt on numerous times in the fight, and Escalera’s corner should have probably stopped the fight to save him from taking needless punishment by the 5th because he was doing little other than just taking shots in this fight.

Darchinyan wants rematches with Donaire or Mares

By Dan Ambrose: Former two division world champion Vic Darchinyan (36-3-1, 27 KO’s) defeated Yonnhy Perez (20-2-1, 14 KO’s) by a 5th round technical decision last night in Showtime’s bantamweight tournament at the Nokia Theater, in Los Angeles, California. The 35-year-old Darchinyan showed his old punching power and aggression that previously made him one of the best fighters in the flyweight and super flyweight divisions. Since moving up to bantamweight, however, Darchinyan’s punching power has abandoned him as he’s had two 12 round decision losses, one 12 round decision win over little known Eric Barcelona and now a 5th round technical decision victory against Perez.

Darchinyan defeats Perez

By Jim Dower: In perhaps a fitting end to what has been a disappointing bantamweight tournament put on by Showtime, former two division world champion Vic Darchinyan (36-3-1, 27 KO’s) defeated Colombian Yonnhy Perez (20-2-1, 14 KO’s) by a 5th round technical decision after a hard head clash opened up a cut on the forehead of the 32-year-old Perez on Saturday night at the Nokia Theater, in Los Angeles, California. The cut, which opened up an artery and couldn’t be stopped with manual pressure, led to the ringside doctor halting the bout at 1:07 of the 5th. The fight then went to the scorecards, where Darchinyan won by the judges’ scores of 50-44, 50-44 and 50-44.
