Deontay Wilder Manager: “Wilder Misquoted”

deontay32 - Copy (2)Jay Deas, longtime trainer/manager of heavyweight contender Deontay Wilder is setting the record straight about a recent article in the Daily Star which Deas says misquoted Wilder. The following is from Deas.

“The article stated that Deontay called Tyson Fury a clown, that Fury talks without delivering the goods and that people are laughing at him and not with him. The article went on to quote Deontay as stating Fury was a mascot. I was there when the interview was going on via speaker phone.

Tony Thompson: Fury would be an easier fight than David Price

thompson3By Scott Gilfoid: #8 IBF, #15 WBC heavyweight contender Tony “The Tiger” Thompson (39-4, 26 KO’s) doesn’t think too much of UK fighter Tyson Fury (22-0, 16 KO’s) after watching some of his fights, and he sees the 6’9” British heavyweight as an easier mark than David Price, who Thompson twice destroyed in 2013 in quick knockouts. Thompson doesn’t see much talent from Fury, and he thinks he’s vulnerable to pretty much any heavyweight they put him in with due to his lack of ability.

Fury has a fight coming up in four months against Derek Chisora (20-4, 13 KO’s) in a WBO heavyweight eliminator bout at the Phones 4u Arena in Manchester, UK. However, after that fight, should Fury win, he’s going to have a lot of time in between then and the time he gets an eventual world title shot against IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko, because the Ukrainian champion has another WBO mandatory challenger in Kubrat Pulev who he has to fight later this year. As such, Fury will be sitting around for a long, long time waiting for his title shot against Wladimir.

Chisora: I’m giving Fury another payday

fury689By Scott Gilfoid: It’s really difficult to see the July 26th clash between British heavyweights Dereck Chisora (20-4, 13 KO’s) and Tyson Fury (22-0, 16 KO’s) as anything more than a domestic/European level money grab where the two fighters will make a ton of money, but the fans will be seeing little more than the next sacrificial lamb being picked out for IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko to ritually slaughter.

I was hoping that Wladimir would finally start facing good opposition, but the World Boxing Organization has thrown a bone to Wladimir by letting him face the Chisora-Fury winner for the WBO mandatory. Why on Earth did the WBO pick Fury and Chisora as the two fighters that should be fighting for a chance at Wladimir? First off, I don’t see the point in the rematch in the first place due to Fury having easily beaten Chisora three years ago. Secondly, neither guy has beaten a live body to deserve to be in a position to be fighting in a mandatory.

Chisora thinks the pressure is getting to Fury

fury657By Scott Gilfoid: EBU heavyweight champion Dereck Chisora (20-4, 14 KO’s) thinks Tyson Fury (22-0, 16 KO’s) is starting to show signs of cracking mentally from the mounting pressure from their rematch that will be taking place on July 26th. Fury boiled over earlier today at a press conference where he stood up, started swearing and then overturned a table before walking off without even so much as a by your leave.

Chisora said this about Fury’s blowup at the press conference: “I’m very calm, I’m a professional, a couple of years ago I would have launched at him as well, but things are different now I’m older, more mature and wiser. Tyson is still an in experienced young puppy now that he’s moved up into my company and he can’t handle it.”

Fury flips table at press conference with Chisora

fury66By Scott Gilfoid: British heavyweight Tyson Fury (22-0, 16 KO’s) went berserk at the press conference with Dereck Chisora (20-4, 13 KO’s) to promote their July 26th rematch at the Phones 4u Arena in Manchester, United Kingdom. Fury got to his feet when it came time for him to talk, and after a brief comment where he bragged himself being the best heavyweight in the division, he overturned a table filled with glasses, and then stormed out of the press conference in a huff.

Needless to say, it was very, very bizarre behavior and one has to guess that Fury might be feeling the case of the nerves now that he’s fighting an improved and in shape Chisora.

Fury v Chisora, a worthy Heavyweight fight

By Hayesa: On Monday we got the announcement that we all knew was imminent, as soon as Tyson Fury and Mick Hennessy joined forces with Frank Warren and Boxnation, it was a sure thing we would see him step in the ring with Dereck Chisora. July 26th will see both men step in the ring at Manchester’s Echo arena, with both men already wanting to pick up where they left off the last time they fought.

Tyson Fury to have private spar with Carlos Takam to get ready for Chisora

fury2By Scott Gilfoid: With him now signed for a big money rematch against Dereck Chisora (20-4, 13 KO’s) on July 26th, Tyson Fury (22-0, 16 KO’s) no longer has the option of taking a tune-up fight to get ready for that fight. It’s just too risky with the Chisora fight being only 4 months away. So, instead of Fury taking a tune-up, he plans on having an all-out spar with the tough as nails #15 WBC fringe contender Carlos Takam on either April 14th or the 15th to try and get ready for Chisora.

Fury wants to spar Takam 12 rounds behind closed doors, and he doesn’t want the results of the spar to be leaked out to the press for obvious reasons. For the fans who might not remember Takam is, he’s the guy that was robbed recently in his fight against the Cuban Michael Perez last January.

Chisora battles Fury in WBO eliminator on July 26th

chisora22By Scott Gilfoid: In a rematch that really makes little sense other than the money that can be made from it, #2 WBO, #7 WBA, #7 IBF, Dereck Chisora (20-4, 13 KO’s) will battle #7 WBO, #8 WBC, Tyson Fury (22-0, 16 KO’s) on July 26th in a WBO heavyweight eliminator bout at the Phones 4u Arena in Manchester, Lancashire, United Kingdom.

The fight is understandable given the money it can make in the UK, but what’s interesting is how the World Boxing Organization is making it a WBO eliminator with the winner to become the WBO mandatory challenger to champion Wladimir Klitschko. That doesn’t make sense to me, because there are higher ranked fighters than Fury by the WBO, such as #3 Andy Ruiz, #4 Deontay Wilder and #6 Christian Hammer.

Tyson Fury and Dereck Chisora to fight for British heavyweight title

fury11By Scott Gilfoid: The British Boxing Board of Control has approved a request for the fight between Tyson Fury (22-0, 16 KO’s) and Dereck Chisora (20-4, 13 KO’s) to have the British heavyweight title on the line, according to the Lancaster Guardian. Chisora’s promoter asked to have the British title on the line, and BBBofC granted it. It’s hard to imagine why Fury and Chisora would want to fight for the British title, because they should be aiming a tad bit higher than a domestic level strap, shouldn’t they?

I tend to see fighters that go after British straps as either guys just starting out or fighters that don’t have the talent to go after world title straps. Is this the ultimate fate of Chisora and Fury with them fighting it out for a British title? Chisora is 30-years-old, and it’s difficult to imagine why he’d want to be fighting for a British title, especially when he’s holding the EBU title.

The Rise of the Heavyweights

By Christopher J Knowles: As we all know, if you’re a casual boxing fan or fanatic boxing fan we all have noticed the Heavyweight Division just doesn’t seem to have that same spark as many past generations, will we ever see the heavyweight division light up the boxing scene again? I think we will!

Over the years heavyweight boxing just hasn’t been up to standard or has it? The Klitschko’s have dominated the division. I mean really got it in their back pocket and many fight fans are pointing at them for the decline in the division.
