Brook-Porter possible fight dates: September 6th or 16th

brook323552By Scott Gilfoid: IBF welterweight champion Shawn Porter (24-0-1, 15 KO’s) has signed for his title defense against #1 IBF Kell Brook (32-0, 22 KO’s), and they’re now looking at one of two dates in September for the fight to take place in either September 6th or the 16th. The venue will obviously be in the United States, because there’s no way that Porter, the champion, is going to fight in the UK to accommodate Brook and his fans.

It’s going to be a fight where Brook is going to have to travel for one of the rare occasions in his career, and he’s going to have to deal with not being the one cheered constantly during the fight like he normally is when fighting at home in Sheffield.

Hearn: Porter will get stripped if he fights Mayweather and not Brook

porter03By Scott Gilfoid: Eddie Hearn, the British promoter for #1 IBF Kell Brook (32-0, 22 KO’s), is all bent out of shape about IBF welterweight champion Shawn Porter (24-0-1, 15 KO’s) opting not to sign his part of the agreement for a title defense against Brook. Hearn already had Brook sign his part of the agreement for the IBF ordered fight between them, but Porter still hasn’t signed his part of the agreement and this has Hearn’s feathers ruffled.

Hearn isn’t sure why Porter hasn’t signed, but he thinks that there’s no way that he’ll get a unification match against WBA/WBC 147 pound champ Floyd Mayweather Jr. But if he does get the fight with the star, Hearn says Porter won’t have his IBF title because it’ll be stripped by the IBF for his failure to defend the belt against Brook.

Porter vs. Brook won’t be taking place on August 9th, will be another date

porter5By Scott Gilfoid: Well, it looks like #1 IBF Kell Brook (32-0, 22 KO’s) is going to have to wait a little longer before he gets his title shot against IBF welterweight champion Shawn Porter (24-0-1, 15 KO’s), because Dan Rafael of ESPN is saying that the Brook-Porter fight won’t be taking place on August 9th. The fight will be taking place on another date. It’s unclear when right now.

Rafael said on his twitter, “I am told @ShowtimeShawnP vs. @SpecialKBrook will NOT be on the 8/9 card in Brooklyn. Will be some other date, if at all.”

Lamont Peterson to fight on August 9th on Porter-Brook card at Barclays Center, Brooklyn, NY

peterson65676By Allan Fox: IBF light welterweight champion Lamont Peterson (32-2-1, 16 KO’s) will be back in the ring on August 9th to defend his IBF title against an opponent still to be determined on the Shawn Porter vs. Kell Brook card at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Peterson, 30, hasn’t fought since last January when he defeated then No.1 IBF contender Dierry Jean by an easy 12 round unanimous decision at the DC Armory in Washington, DC. Peterson draws well in Washington, DC, it’s strange that he’d want to leave that location to fight on a card where he won’t be the main event. Peterson will likely be the chief support on that card unless he’s matched against someone really weak.

Kell Brook: A victory over Porter will lead to Mayweather and Pacquiao

brook45453By Scott Gilfoid: #1 IBF Kell Brook (32-0, 22 KO’s) will be fighting for a world title on August 9th against IBF welterweight champion Shawn Porter (24-0-1, 15 KO’s) at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. This is Brook’s moment in the sun, because he blew his chance a year ago for a title shot against former IBF 147-pound champion Devon Alexander when his body kept breaking down on him during training camp with him suffering one injury after another.

Whether the cause of the injury was just bad luck or perhaps the stress of the moment getting to him, it’s unclear. But Brook is now getting another chance at the IBF belt, and he can’t afford to blow it this time.

Brook will stop Porter from rushing in by nailing him with right hands, says Ingle

porter02By Scott Gilfoid: Dominic Ingle, the trainer for No.1 IBF Kell Brook (32-0, 22 KO’s), thinks that his fighter will be able to halt the attacks from IBF welterweight champion Shawn Porter (24-0-1, 15 KO’s) in their fight on August 9th at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Ingle believes that Porter’s high pressure offense and his attempts and taking advantage of Brook on the inside [where he has little skills] will be ultimately fruitless, because Brook will catch Porter with jabs and straight right hands that will stop him in his tracks to keep him from getting to Brook’s soft underbelly.

Mayweather should fight Thurman, Porter or Brook before he retires

floyd98674By Gav Duthie: For the last few years we’ve always known that like clockwork Floyd Mayweather Jr (46-0 (26) will fight on the first Saturday in May and the second Saturday in September. This seems to have worked relatively well for him in the past but this time that September date means he is running out of potential opponents for his next showdown.

There have been so many summer blockbusters in and around his divisions most opponents wouldn’t be available for September. When I look through the list of candidates the only fight that seems workable and worthwhile is Keith ‘One Time’ Thurman 23-0 (21). This got me thinking that if Mayweather isn’t going to cement his legacy by beating Manny Pacquiao then he should look to the superstars of the future.

Shawn Porter vs. Kell Brook on August 9th in New York

brook3By Scott Gilfoid: A deal has been reached between IBF welterweight champion Shawn Porter (24-0-1, 15 KO’s) and his #1 IBF mandatory challenger Kell Brook (34-0, 22 KO’s) for August 9th in New York, according to Dan Rafael of ESPN. This means there’s just a little over 2 months to go before the two fighters will need to step inside the ring to face each other. Hopefully for both of their sake they’ve been training already for the fight because 2 months isn’t a great deal of time to train for a fight.

“IBF says deal has been reached for @ShowtimeShawnP [Porter] vs @SpecialKBrook and it will be Aug. 9 in NYC,” Rafael said on his twitter.
This will be the second time for the 28-year-old Brook to be in position for a world title fight.

What next for Keith Thurman and Shawn Porter?

thurman52By Poerqe: Keith ‘One time’ Thurman (23-0, 21 KO’s) just obliterated Julio Diaz (40-10-1, 29 KO’s) in three rounds. This was the same Julio Diaz who knocked Amir Khan (29-3, 19 KO’s) down and fought to a draw against Shawn Porter (24-0-1, 15 KO’s). But where does Keith go from here. After the Jesús Soto Karass fight, Keith was looking for a big name opponent. He spoke to Schaeffer and Al Haymon and asked for Shawn Porter. It came as a surprise to me that Porter was quick to dismiss the fight.

The problem with both Thurman and Porter is, that they are high risk, low value fighters. Why would anyone go looking to mess with them for the low reward they bring to the table. Boxing has changed. It isn’t the sport where the best fight the best. Nowadays it’s where one fighter with name recognition fights another popular fighter. It’s who you know and more importantly how many boxing fans know your name.

Biggest Boxing card History

By Jon Ingram: Let’s be honest, to hit the lottery with Floyd “Money” Mayweather Jr, he has to want to fight you. It’s been proven by a lot of boxers interested with stepping in the ring with him, and that they all say “I don’t know, he’s his own business man. He chooses who he wants to fight”. Everyone knows that Floyd is all about his money, (look at his nickname). What if someone proposed to him a deal that would make him happy, his fans happy, and help save the sport that he loves so much.
