Brook will stop Porter from rushing in by nailing him with right hands, says Ingle

porter02By Scott Gilfoid: Dominic Ingle, the trainer for No.1 IBF Kell Brook (32-0, 22 KO’s), thinks that his fighter will be able to halt the attacks from IBF welterweight champion Shawn Porter (24-0-1, 15 KO’s) in their fight on August 9th at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Ingle believes that Porter’s high pressure offense and his attempts and taking advantage of Brook on the inside [where he has little skills] will be ultimately fruitless, because Brook will catch Porter with jabs and straight right hands that will stop him in his tracks to keep him from getting to Brook’s soft underbelly.

“Once Kell catches you with a powerful jab or a straight right hand he’ll stop fighters like Shawn Poter trying to rush in. He has to keep it clean and not get dragged into a wrestling match,” Ingle said to skysports.com.

This sounds good if it were one of Brook’s typical opponents like Matthew Hatton, Alvaro Robles, Vyacheslav Senchenko, Carson Jones or Hector David Saldivia, but this is a talented and defeated world champion in Porter. He’s not going to have his forward momentum halted by a simple jab or fight hand from Porter.

Those punches might land, but Porter is going to walk through them and then have at it on the inside. Brook will obviously need do an awful lot of holding on August 9th otherwise he’s going to be scalped by Porter and his pelt will be added to his resume. I honestly don’t think holding will do the trick either, because Paulie Malignaggi and Devon Alexander both tried that trick, and it failed to work because Porter just kept throwing punches despite being held onto tightly by these fighters.

“It’s his [Brook] big chance. It’s a big ask to go to America and fight an American on his home soil,” Ingle said. “There’s probably been more failures and successes with British fighters going there but Kell is a special fighter and I think he can pull it off.”

I hate to say it but I see this going badly for Brook with him getting pounded on the inside and eventually stopped. If a fighter like Carson Jones fought Brook well enough to deserve a victory in their first fight, then someone like Porter is likely to knock him out well inside the distance on August 9th.
