By William Mackay: The choice for WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan’s next fight on July 23 has narrowed dramatically in the past month with IBF light welterweight champ Zab Judah and WBC/WBO light welterweight champion Timothy Bradley falling by the wayside, leaving only Erik Morales, Marcos Maidana and Roberto Guerrero. Of those, most boxing fans would select Maidana as number #1, Morales #2 and Guerrero a way distant #3.

That’s less dangerous fight for Khan, because Guerrero isn’t a big puncher like Judah.

Guerrero recently easily beat Australian Michael Katsidis earlier this month in a one-sided 12 round unanimous decision on the undercard of the Marcos Maidana vs. Erik Morales card on April 9th.

By Dan Ambrose: Robert Guerrero (29-1-1, 18 KO’s) defeated Australian Michael Katsidis (27-4, 22 KO’s) by a lopsided 12 round unanimous decision on Saturday night at the MGM Grand, in Las Vegas, Nevada to capture the WBA and WBO interim lightweight titles. Guerrero stood and traded with the hard hitting Katsidis for 12 rounds, taking his best shots and firing back hard punches of his own. In the end, Guerrero’s work rate and sharp punching was the difference in the fight.

Katsidis, ranked #4 WBO, was recently stopped in the 9th round by Juan Manuel Marquez last year and took a tremendous beating in that fight.

The final judges’ scores were 100-90, 98-90 and 96-92.
