Katsidis-Guerrero fight won’t be happening in March

By Jim Dower: The hoped for March bout between lightweight contenders Michael Kasidis (27-3, 22 KO’s) and former two division world champion Robert Guerrero (28-1-1, 18 KO’s) is off a due to a serious flood in his native Australia, according to boxing news from The Ring. Katsidis, ranked #4 WBO, was recently stopped in the 9th round by Juan Manuel Marquez last year and took a tremendous beating in that fight.

Marquez-Diaz Undercard: Upset for Jacobs while Guerrero and Linares cruise to victories

Image: Marquez-Diaz Undercard: Upset for Jacobs while Guerrero and Linares cruise to victoriesBy Peter Wells: Not everything last night went as planned, as expected Robert Guerrero dominated the 38-year-old Joel Casamayor and took an easy decision apart from his last round scare, and Linares did enough to make Rocky Juarez’s late surge all for nothing. But it was Daniel Jacobs another promising star at Golden Boy Promotions (GBP), who slipped up on his big night.

End of the line for Casamayor

By Kirk Jackson: Joel Casamayor certainly looked his age tonight against the younger fighter Robert ‘The Ghost’ Guerrero. The fight in itself was boring, but there was one last flash of greatness from the all time Cuban great in the final round, when he sent ‘The Ghost‘ to the canvas off a counter right jab. The effort from Guerrero was lackadaisical, whether it is from distractions from his personal life or adjusting to the weight it’s beyond me. Maybe he was thrown off by his opponent’s southpaw stance, or legendary reputation of the former two division champion. Whatever was the case, Guerrero was able to defeat the former champion.

Casamayor-Guerrero: Can Joel pull out the stocks or will Robert end in his long journey

By Peter Wells: Tomorrow night (Saturday 31st July) there will be one of boxing’s PPV worthy shows, with not only a great main event but a cracking undercard to go with it. The Mandalay Bay, Las Vegas super show we see two world title fights and also two make or break fights. One of them is between veteran Cuban Joel Casamayor and a man with a lot to prove, Robert Guerrero. After 42 professional fights and nearly 14 years in the sport, the 39 year old has a lot to be proud of, and a win hear would cap it off. The main concern is if he does win, Casamayor, like so many others will think he is the new Bernard Hopkins and get a blunt defeat against a top class opponent to put a nasty bump in his record. I only want Casamayor to win if he retires after that, I don’t want to see another great fighter go out on his back.
