By Jim Dower: The hoped for March bout between lightweight contenders Michael Kasidis (27-3, 22 KO’s) and former two division world champion Robert Guerrero (28-1-1, 18 KO’s) is off a due to a serious flood in his native Australia, according to boxing news from The Ring. Katsidis, ranked #4 WBO, was recently stopped in the 9th round by Juan Manuel Marquez last year and took a tremendous beating in that fight.

Katsidis would be asking a lot of himself to get back in the ring this early after the pounding he took from Marquez in that bout. The bout was talked about for the March 5th undercard of the Saul Alvarez vs. Matthew Hatton bout. It would have really helped that card, as the HBO televised Alvarez-Hatton card needs at least more interesting fight in order to make this an appealing card for HBO to show.

Guerrero, #1 WBO, #2 WBA, #4 IBF and #10 WBC, defeated Joel Casamayor and Vincente Escobedo in 2010 by lopsided 10 round unanimous decisions. You would have had to have favored Guerrero over Katsidis if they had fought, because the southpaw Guerrero is looking mighty impressive at lightweight.

With Marquez planning on moving up in weight, there’s a very good chance that Guerrero will soon be the main guy at lightweight. There are some fighters that Guerrero needs to be concerned with like Katsidis, Humberto Soto, John Murray, Miguel Vazquez, Miguel Acosta, Ali Funeka, Juan Diaz, Lenny Zappavigna, Urbano Antillon and Brandon Rios. However, I would pick Guerrero over every one of those fighters.
