Prediction: Look for Laryea to beat Burns black and blue tonight

Image: Prediction: Look for Laryea to beat Burns black and blue tonightBy Scott Gilfoid: It’s going to be a sad night for fans of WBO super featherweight champion Ricky Burns (30-2, 7 KO’s), who is taking on the hard hitting #11 ranked World Boxing Organization contender Joseph Laryea (14-4, 11 KO’s) at the Braehead Arena, in Glascow, Scotland. This fight is supposed to be a partial payback for Laryea’s beating of fellow countryman Paul Appleby last December, when Appleby made the huge mistake of trying to go toe-to-toe with the hard hitting Laryea and ended up getting his backside handed to him on plate.

Burns may have some problems with Laryea on Saturday

Image: Burns may have some problems with Laryea on SaturdayBy Sean McDaniel: The light hitting WBO super featherweight champion Ricky Burns (30-2, 7 KO’s) may have a fight on his hands on Saturday night against the 5’11” Joseph Laryea (14-4, 11 KO’s) at the Braehead Arena, Glasgow, Scotland. Burns, 27, is the older fighter by two years, but Laryea punches a lot harder and can punch with a lot of power either hand. Laryea is similar to Colombian Breidis Prescott, a fighter that took out Amir Khan in one round in 2008.

Burns vs. Laryea on Saturday: Another mismatch for Ricky

By Scott Gilfoid: WBO super featherweight champion Ricky Burns (30-2, 7 KO’s) will be facing yet another mismatched opponent this Saturday night in little known Ghanian Joseph Laryea (14-4, 11 KO’s) at the Braehead Arena, in Glascow, Scotland. This is Burns’ second title defense of his World Boxing Organization strap that he won last year with a close 12 round decision over the weight drained champion Roman Martinez. It looks like Burns is milking his WBO title by defending it against the #11 ranked Laryea.

Burns vs. Laryea: Will Ricky finally step it up a couple notches after this?

Image: Burns vs. Laryea: Will Ricky finally step it up a couple notches after this?By Scott Gilfoid: To say that WBO super featherweight champion Ricky Burns (30-2, 7 KO’s) has been a disappointing champion is putting things mildly. Instead of seeing exciting fights against top super featherweights like Takashi Uchiyama, Jorge Linares, Jason Litzau, Robert Guerrero, Jorge Solis or Takahiro Aoh, we’ve had to settle for Burns taking a counter by the name of Andreas Evensen, who came into the fight with Burns having fought only 14 times during his career.

Burns to fight Laryea in March

By Scott Gilfoid: Well, it looks like WBO super featherweight champion Ricky Burns (30-2, 7 KO’s) is going to be taking another soft touch when he defends his World Boxing Organization title for the second time against #10 ranked Joseph Laryea (14-4, 11 KO’s) in March, according to Frank Warren. It looks like Burns is continuing the milking process which started with his first defense against little known fringe contender Andreas Evensen in December 2010.
