Image: Prediction: Look for Laryea to beat Burns black and blue tonightBy Scott Gilfoid: It’s going to be a sad night for fans of WBO super featherweight champion Ricky Burns (30-2, 7 KO’s), who is taking on the hard hitting #11 ranked World Boxing Organization contender Joseph Laryea (14-4, 11 KO’s) at the Braehead Arena, in Glascow, Scotland. This fight is supposed to be a partial payback for Laryea’s beating of fellow countryman Paul Appleby last December, when Appleby made the huge mistake of trying to go toe-to-toe with the hard hitting Laryea and ended up getting his backside handed to him on plate.

Laryea beat Appleby black and blue, and Appleby didn’t have the common sense to keep away from Laryea in order to keep from getting hit so much. Burns is now looking to avenge that defeat by taking on Laryea, while at the same time taking on a guy that’s not considered as dangerous as the top contenders like Terdsak Jaendang, Eloy Perez and Roman Martinez. It won’t matter, though, because tonight, I see Laryea beating up on Burns and giving him an Appleby-esque beating in front of Burns’ shocked and saddened Scottish fans.

Burns is an inside fighter with very little power and who likes to outwork his opponents in grueling inside attacks. Burns just basically just outworks his opponents. He barely beat a weight drained Martinez to capture the fight after getting dropped early on. When Martinez ran out of gas, Burns took over the fight and won a close 12 round decision. Tonight, however, Burns is facing a guy that can really punch, fights on the outside and is taller with longer arms.

I see this going badly for Burns with Laryea going right hand happy tonight. Burns won’t be able to block any of the rights due to his poor defensive skills. It won’t take long for the blood to start flowing down Burns’ face after Laryea starts slicking him up with nice right hands. Once the blood is flowing, Laryea will have Burns where he wants him and will proceed to beat the tar out of him all night long in front of his baying Scottish fans.
