Before Bob Arum allows Cotto to get a second bite at the Pacquiao apple, Cotto is going to have to go through a series of fights first against Richard Mayorga on March 12th, Antonio Margarito in the Summer and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. likely after that, and hope to come out of them unscathed so that he can get another huge money fight with boxing’s number #1 cash cow Pacquiao.

By Chris Williams: Trainer Emanuel Steward appears to be dreaming or something because he not only thinks his fighter WBA junior middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (35-2, 28 KO’s) will KO his next opponent, 37-year-old Ricardo Mayorga (29-7-1, 23 KO’s) on March 12th, but also knockout Antonio Margarito and Manny Pacquiao in rematches.

Cotto can lose that fight, take a beating and then take another beating in the summer in a rematch with Antonio Margarito, and Cotto is probably still going to get a good money rematch with Pacquiao in 2011 or 2012.

By Dan Ambrose: – Photo: Tom Casino/Showtime – Former two division world champion Ricardo Mayorga (29-7-1, 23 KO’s) got the better of World Boxing Association (WBA) junior middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (35-2, 28 KO’s) at today’s press conference to hype their March12th fight at the MGM Grand, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Cotto, 30, has taken some beatings in his his last three fights and also taken a terrible beating in his loss to Antonio Margarito in 2008. Cotto hasn’t looked the same since taking a royal pounding from Margarito but has still won three out of the last four fights. However, Cotto looked on the verge of losing to Joshua Clottey in 2009 until Clottey ran out of gas.

Even in his recent win over Yuri Foreman, Cotto was hit with some mammoth shots. There’s whispers out there among Cotto’s loyal fans that he’s no longer the same fighter he once was. I don’t need to hear the whispers to see that Cotto has noticeably deteriorated in the last three years with the beatings he taken in the ring.

Give me a break; you got Miguel Angel Cotto, despite being the nicest person you can meet, his face can no longer take a punch without turning into a big red balloon, fighting a 37 year old Ricardo Mayorga who cannot beat any junior middleweight of substance.

It’s going to be the strangest thing with Cotto coming off a loss or a terrible beating at the hands of Mayorga and still facing Margarito. But I see Cotto and Margarito’s promoter Bob Arum going ahead with their June fight, knowing that the casual fans probably won’t have a clue that Cotto was pounded on by Mayorga.
