It probably doesn’t even matter if Cotto gets beaten up and knocked out in his next fight against Ricardo Mayorga on March 12th at the MGM Grand, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Cotto can lose that fight, take a beating and then take another beating in the summer in a rematch with Antonio Margarito, and Cotto is probably still going to get a good money rematch with Pacquiao in 2011 or 2012.

That’s almost a given because his promoter Bob Arum is going to want to put Pacquiao and Cotto back in together to get gullible boxing fans, the diehard Pacquiao fans, and the casual ones, who would likely have no clue that Cotto was struggling, to purchase the rematch on pay-per-view. The question is whether Arum will let Pacquiao fight Mayorga if he beats up Cotto? Don King, the promoter for Mayorga, seems to think Arum will let Pacquiao fight Mayorga.

I don’t think it will happen. I can see Arum keeping Pacquiao far away from Mayorga should he beat up Cotto, and act as if nothing happened at all. It’s going to be sad if Mayorga doesn’t get the fight because he would deserve to get a fight with Pacquiao if he beats up Arum’s number #2 gravy train fighter you would think. Mayorga would have done his part to prove that he deserves a shot against Pacquiao, and it would be up to Arum to give him the chance.
