Image: Steward thinks Cotto will stop Mayorga, Margarito and Pacquiao in his next three fights - Boxing NewsBy Chris Williams: Trainer Emanuel Steward appears to be dreaming or something because he not only thinks his fighter WBA junior middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (35-2, 28 KO’s) will KO his next opponent, 37-year-old Ricardo Mayorga (29-7-1, 23 KO’s) on March 12th, but also knockout Antonio Margarito and Manny Pacquiao in rematches.

Both of the latter fighters badly punished and stopped Cotto in the past. However, Steward is confident about Cotto’s skills after tinkering with his fighting style and having him use his jab much more and adding more movement. Cotto’s jab does make him a much better fighter than he was before, but his movement won’t safe him from taking another beating from Pacquiao and Margarito, I’m afraid. Cotto already ran from Margarito and Pacquiao during his fights with them, yet they were still able to catch to Cotto and taken him out in the later rounds of the fight.

In an interview at Primera Hora, Steward says “I have always praised Miguel’s boxing skills, something that he seemed to neglect in recent years. But now that we have taken it up again with his skills, his development has become phenomenal. Therefore, I have no doubt that the way that Cotto fought Yuri Foreman, he will knock out Mayorga with a hook to the body. Then he should repeat that with a knockout over Margarito, and then Manny Pacquiao, who we are also going to stop to avenge these two losses.”

It sounds unbelievable that Cotto will beat both Margarito and Pacquiao given how bad Cotto looked against them. Cotto looks good against other fighter but he didn’t look at all good against Margarito and Pacquiao.
