By Matt Stein: World Boxing Organization light welterweight champion Timothy Bradley (24-0, 11 KO’s) faces arguably his toughest opponent of his career in a fight against former IBF/WBA/WBO lightweight champion Nate Campbell (33-5-1, 25 KO’s) on August 1st at the Agua Caliente Casino, in Rancho Mirage, California. Campbell, a young 37, lost his titles on the scale in a fight against Ali Funeka in his last fight on February 14th. No longer able to make the lightweight limit without a severe struggle, Campbell opted to move up in weigh to the light welterweight division.

By Chris Williams: Lightweight Amir Khan (20-1, 15 KOs) will have to wait an additional three weeks to get a shot at World Boxing Association light welterweight champion Andreas Kotelnik (31-2-1, 13 KOs) who because of a nasty infection of one of his teeth can’t fight until July 18th. The delay will make it necessary for the fight to be held at the MEN Arena instead of the O2 Arena because singer Michael Jackson has a scheduled date to sing on June 27th.

By Jim Dower: Although South African lightweight Ali Funeka (30-2-2, 25 KOs) came up short on Saturday night against former IBF/WBA/WBO lightweight champion Nate Campbell, losing by a 12-round majority decision at the BankAtlantic Center, in Sunrise, Florida, Funeka out-fought Campbell in the majority of the rounds and proved to be every bit as good as Campbell and then some. After the fight, an emotional Campbell announced that he’s moving up to the light welterweight division, leaving Funeka and a handful of other lightweight stars to fight it out for the vacant International Boxing Federation title.

By Manuel Perez: In watching Nate Campbell (33-5-1, 25 KOs) struggle badly on Saturday night against a rail thin Ali Funeka, I have to say I don’t give Campbell, 37, much if any chance at doing well at this weight. Campbell looked horrible against Funeka, getting hit a lot, having his face puffed up and barely making it out of the single digits in punch output. Against the bigger, stronger and equally fast light welterweights, like Ricardo Torres, Timothy Bradley, Kendall Holt, Junior Witter, Andreas Kotelnik, to name just a few, Campbell will be a huge disadvantage.
