Nate Campbell talks Gennady Golovkin

golovkin633

By Chris Williams: Former lightweight champion Nate Campbell says he doesn’t understand why middleweight world champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (35-0, 32 KOs) doesn’t move up in weight to fight guys at light heavyweight, especially given that the 160lb division doesn’t have popular guys for him to fight right now.

Campbell doesn’t understand why Golovkin is so eager to fight a small welterweight like Floyd Mayweather Jr., but he’s not eager to fight guys that are 15 pounds heavier than himself at light heavyweight like Andre Ward or Sergey Kovalev.

A Look Back On Last Weekend’s Boxing

03(Photo credit: Naoki Fakuda) By Shane Newsome: After a highly entertaining week of boxing from a number of counties including three world title fights and a number of our favorite boxers in action, its easy to get lost in the hype and lose track of what is really happening out there so here is your impartial look back on Saturday 27th April 2013 in the world of boxing.

And we start our journey in Sheffield, Yorkshire, UK and the main event Amir Khan (28-3) vs Julio Diaz (40-8-1) here was another night that Bolton’s Amir Khan should have made easy work of a lesser opponent though instead we had ourselves yet another night of hearts beating, on the edge of our seats watching a technically sound offensive boxer holding on for dear life after being caught time and time again through defensive frailties.

A Look Forward to This Weeks Boxing

clip_image006By Shane Newsome: With again another packed schedule on both sides of the Atlantic we have busy cards in UK, USA but also action from Argentina and Germany with fights not to be missed, so let’s take a look at what we have in store.

First we go to Sheffield, Yorkshire, UK and the main event Amir Khan (27-3) vs Julio Diaz (40-7-1) this fight should just be another stepping stone for the 26 year-old Brit even a Diaz in his absolute prime should be easy work for someone as skilled as Khan look for him to get Julio out of there around the mid-late rounds anything else and maybe Khan will deserve the criticism he will most definitely receive, if he does win this fight in easy fashion like expected you would hope he would now step back up to world level and try and avenge on of his recent defeats like he has talked about, we will soon see.

Nate Campbell vs. Terry Flannigan on Khan-Diaz undercard on April 27th in Sheffield

campbell46344By Eric Thomas: Former IBF/WBA/WBO lightweight champion Nate Campbell (36-10-1, 26 KO’s) will be dropping back down to lightweight to face unbeaten prospect Terry Flannigan (19-0, 5 KO’s) in a scheduled 10 round bout on the undercard of the Amir Khan vs. Julio Diaz card on April 27th at the Motorpoint Arena in Sheffield, UK.

Campbell, 41, was soundly beaten in his last fight against unbeaten welterweight contender Kevin Bizier in an 8th round stoppage last February. It was a big mistake for Campbell to agree to move up from light welterweight to take on the bigger, stronger and younger Bizier in the 147 pound division.

Bizier defeats Campbell in Montreal

bizier2By Jim Dower: The much bigger #6 WBA welterweight contender Kevin Bizier (20-0, 14 KO’s) kept his perfect record intact in stopping 40-year-old former IBF/WBA/WBO lightweight Nate Campbell (36-10-1, 26 KO’s) by an 8th round stoppage on Friday night at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Canada.

The fight was halted after the 8th round by Campbell’s corner due to a back injury. However, Campbell was taking terrible one-sided punishment from the younger 28-year-old Bizier and it was getting worse with each round.

Initially, Campbell was fighting back in the first two rounds despite being much shorter and lighter, but from the 3rd round on, Campbell was just absorbing one-way punishment against the ropes without stop. Bizier showed good power and nice combinations.
