Should Nate Campbell retire?

By Jason Kim: Last Saturday night, former IBF/WBA/WBO lightweight champion Nate Campbell (33-6-1, 25 KO’s) lost a lopsided 10 round unanimous decision to up and coming light welterweight contender Victor Ortiz (27-2-1, 21 KO’s) on the undercard of the WBA light welterweight title fight between champion Amir Khan and challenger Paulie Malignaggi at Madison Square Garden, in New York. There’s no shame in losing to a fine fighter like Ortiz. However, the way that the 38-year-old Campbell lost to Ortiz couldn’t be a good sign for the future for the aging fighter.

Khan-Malignaggi undercard: Jacobs stops Astorga, Ortiz and Prescott wins

By Eric Thomas: Victor Ortiz (27-2-1, 21 KOs) defeated Nate Campbell (33-6-1, 25 KOs) by a 10 round unanimous decision on Saturday night at Madison Square Garden, in New York. The fight was far from exciting, as Ortiz dominated Campbell, making him look his age. The entire fight card was pretty dull, filled with mismatches like this fight. This bout may have looked good on paper, but in reality it wasn’t even close. Ortiz had too much speed and power for the smaller, older Campbell to deal with.

Ortiz-Campbell: Victor now has to prove he has what it takes against a veteran who blows hot and cold

By Peter Wells: It is just under a year ago now that we saw Victor Ortiz on the brink of stardom against a tough opponent but an opponent that was beatable. Ortiz wouldn’t be in this situation tonight if he had beaten Marcos Maidana, but instead it’s his second chance to prove he’s worthwhile. His opponent this time is a tough veteran in Nate Campbell, who has moved up to Light Welterweight from Lightweight. He has held many titles at 135lbs and it seems too late to make the same impact at 140.

Campbell vs. Ortiz: Is Nate too old and too small for Victor?

By Jim Dower: On Saturday night, 38-year-old former IBF/WBA/WBO lightweight champion Nate Campbell (38-5-1, 25 KO’s) takes on the younger, bigger, faster and stronger Victor Ortiz (26-2-1, 21 KO’s) on the undercard of the WBA light welterweight clash between Amir Khan vs. Paulie Malignaggi at Madison Square Garden, in New York. I don’t like the looks of this fight for Campbell. At 5’7”, Campbell will be giving up two inches in height against the southpaw 5’9” Ortiz and will be a lot slower and a lot older. Ortiz is only 23-years-old and coming into the prime of his career. Campbell left his prime several years ago. Campbell may have seen his finest hour in beating 5’6” Juan Diaz by a 12 round split decision in 2008.

Khan-Malignaggi undercard: Jacobs vs. Manfredo Jr., and Ortiz vs. Campbell

Image: Khan-Malignaggi undercard: Jacobs vs. Manfredo Jr., and Ortiz vs. CampbellBy William Mackay: The May 15th bout between World Boxing Association light welterweight champion Amir Khan vs. Paulie Malignaggi could have a stacked undercard, according to Robert Morales of the Daily News. Unbeaten middleweight contender Daniel Jacobs (18-0, 15 KO’s) could be facing Peter Manfredo Jr. (34-6, 18 KO’s), a former contestant for The Contender reality television. Additionally, the card will have Nate Campbell vs. Victor Ortiz. Apparently, Oscar De La Hoya from Golden Boy Promotions is looking to try and put this fight together and add it to the Khan-Malignaggi undercard.

Victor Ortiz v Nate Campbell: A step too far a step too soon?

Image: Victor Ortiz v Nate Campbell: A step too far a step too soon?by Daniel Ciminera: Since losing to Marcos Maidana back in June last year, Victor Ortiz has had some serious questions asked of him as a fighter. Especially surrounding his heart and commitment as he quit from the fight with Maidana and has since been criticised for perhaps not taking the loss seriously enough. Personally, I’d tend to agree with Ortiz’s sentiment that (quote) “I’m not gonna go out on my back, I’m not gonna lay down for nobody you know, I’d rather just, hey, you know, I’m gonna stop while I’m ahead and that way I can speak well when I’m older you know.”

Campbell-Ortiz on May 15th: Is Nate too old to win this fight?

Image: Campbell-Ortiz on May 15th: Is Nate too old to win this fight?By Jim Dower: Former lightweight champion Nate Campbell (33-5-1, 25 KO’s) looks to be fighting lightweight contender Victor Ortiz (25-2-1, 20 KO’s) on May 15th on the undercard of the Amir Khan vs. Juan Manuel Marquez fight, according to Dan Rafael. On paper, this doesn’t look like a good fight at all for the 37-year-old Campbell, who didn’t look good in the three rounds of action in his previous fight at light welterweight against Timothy Bradley in August 2009.

Will Mayweather fight someone his own size?

Image: Will Mayweather fight someone his own size?By Sean McDaniel: There are rumors in the boxing world that unbeaten Floyd Mayweather Jr. (40-0, 25 KOs) will opt to fight 37-year-old Nate Campbell (33-5-1, 25 KO’s) next Floyd’s scheduled March 13th bout at the MGM Grand, in Las Vegas, Nevada. I don’t know about you, but I’m not so sure that Campbell, a lightweight up until late last year, will be the kind of opponent needed for Mayweather to take some of the fans away from the Manny Pacquiao vs. Joshua Clottey fight on the same night.
