Image: Ortiz wins unanimous decision dominating Campbell over 10 roundsBy Sam Gregory: In the co-main event on the May 15th edition of HBO’s Boxing After Dark from Madison Square Garden in New York City, 23 year old southpaw Victor Ortiz 26-2-1 with 21 KO’s of Oxnard, California takes on “The Galaxxy Warrior”, 38 year old Nate Campbell 33-5-1 with 25 KO’s in a scheduled 10 round bout in the 140 pound junior welterweight division.

In round 1 Ortiz came out as the aggressor and went right after Campbell throwing his jab; Campbell countered off Ortiz’ punches and took control of the fight early on. Campbell went down on what appeared to be a slip in the last few seconds of the round. it was ruled a knockdown in favor of Ortiz.

Round 2 Ortiz put some power punch combinations together; Campbell walked through Ortiz’ punches and threw combinations that didn’t land hard; Ortiz had control of the offensive flow of the fight in this round and landed the harder more aggressive shots.

Round 3 Ortiz came out and went to work digging shots to the body; Ortiz landed 2 solid left hands to the body. Ortiz landed 2 power shots to the head of Campbell; Campbell took several hard shots to the head and body.

After 3 rounds Ortiz was ahead 3 rounds to none on the unofficial scorecard

Round 4 Campbell came out throwing his jab and aggressively going after Ortiz; Ortiz was able to block almost all the punches of Campbell. Ortiz landed solid hooks to the head and body of Campbell; Ortiz had total control of the round.

Round 5 Ortiz came out aggressively throwing and landing solid combinations that kept Campbell from landing anything of significance. Ortiz landed the more solid and aggressive punches in this round.

Round 6 Campbell finally landed some punches that got Ortiz’ attention; Ortiz came back landing vicious shots to the head and body; Ortiz landed his punches first being the faster more aggressive puncher

After 6 rounds Ortiz was winning 6-0

Round 7 Ortiz came out aggressively landing his jab following it up with solid combinations to the body. When Campbell landed one punch Ortiz countered landing 3 or 4 punches. Campbell wasn’t able to keep up with Ortiz’ aggressive power punches.

Round 8 Ortiz worked the ring, Campbell tried to follow Ortiz around the ring but wasn’t able to get off with a single punch. Ortiz held his right hand low and landed single punches with his left. After the round Campbell looked frustrated walking back to his corner.

Round 9 Ortiz put some aggressive combinations together landing to the body and head. Ortiz walked around the ring and landed punches at will; Ortiz was much faster throughout the entire fight; Campbell landed a few punches but mostly too little too late.

Round 10 Ortiz did more of the same landing solid combinations that Campbell wasn’t able to counter. Ortiz just completely outworked Campbell; Ortiz was faster and landed the harder cleaner punches.

After the 10th and final round the fight goes to the judge’s scorecards: 100-89 on 2 cards and 99-90 all for the winner by unanimous decision Victor Ortiz.
