Sauerland: Kessler wants Froch third fight

kessler6743By Scott Gilfoid: Mikkel Kessler’s promoter Kalle Sauerland says that Kessler wants to fight a third fight with IBF/WBA super middleweight champion Carl Froch, and that Froch promised him the fight. Thus far the two fighters have faced each other twice with Kessler winning the first fight in April 2010, and Froch winning their rematch three years later in May of 2013.

“Kessler fancies the winner here tonight. Carl promised it; we’d look forward to it,” Sauerland said to IFL TV.

I don’t know how you can sell a third fight between Froch and Kessler given the fact that Kessler hasn’t fought since his loss to Froch a year ago. I mean, how would that look with Froch deciding he wants to fight a guy who hasn’t fought in a year and a half.

Kessler vs. Froch 3: Mikkel drops big hint he wants another fight with Carl

By Scott Gilfoid: Mikkel Kessler (46-3, 35 KO’s) shot out a tweet today hinting that he wants to fight IBF/WBA super middleweight champion Carl Froch (32-2, 23 KO’s) in a third fight between them if Froch can get past George Groves (19-1, 15 KO’s) in their rematch on May 31st at the Wembley Stadium in London, UK. Kessler hasn’t fought since his 12 round unanimous decision loss to Froch last year in May, but it looks like he’s finally decided to get back in the ring after all this time. Kessler said he’ll be at the Froch-Groves 2 fight.

If Kessler had acted sooner after his loss to Froch last year, he would have very likely gotten an immediate rematch straight away, because Froch’s promoter Eddie Hearn was talking 24/7 about wanting to put an immediate rematch together between the two fighters due to the tremendous amount of interest there had been between the two fighters, but Kessler didn’t speak up, so Hearn had Froch move on and face Groves in what was by far a more exciting fight last November.

Mikkel Kessler to return to ring in October or November, wants Froch

kessler#8By Scott Gilfoid: After sitting idle for an entire year since his uninspired, listless performance in losing to Carl Froch last year in May, former WBA/WBC super middleweight champion Mikkel Kessler (46-3, 35 KO’s) announced today in a press conference in Denmark that he’ll be returning to the ring in October or November this year, and he’ll be looking for an important fight straightway without a tune-up.

Kessler says he’d like a third fight against Froch, although I’m not sure how that would be possible given Kessler’s time off, lack of fights during the last year, and his less than motivated looking performance against Froch the last time they fought. If all Kessler wants is a big fight without showing that he still has anything left, it’s going to give some boxing fans the impression that he’s looking to cash out. Kessler needs to be fighting tune-ups and contenders rather than going into title shots that he hardly deserves after sitting for an entire year.

Kalle Sauerland: Kessler to decide future next week

kessler6743By Nicklasleander: Kalle Sauerland, the promoter of 5-time super middleweight champion Mikkel Kessler (46-3, 35 KO’s), was interview by danish television following danish middleweight contender Patrick Nielsen’s (22-0, 11 KO’s) 2. round stoppage over 38-year old American Tony Jeter (16-4-1, 11 KO’s). Sauerland said that Kessler was yet to decide, whether he would fight again or not. They would, however, meet next week to decide the fate of Kessler, who too, was interviewed, but declined to answer questions about his future.

Kessler last fight was in may of last year, losing a thrilling unanimous decision to WBA/IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch (32-2, 23 KO’s). A third fight against Froch was in the talks following the fight.

Mikkel Kessler changes his appearance dramatically, still no fight scheduled

By Scott Gilfoid: Former WBA/WBC super middleweight champion Mikkel Kessler (46-3, 35 KO’s) has gone in for a new look recently with him sporting a beard that reminds one of the Duck Dynasty group on AMC, and it’s got me wondering whether the soon to be 35-year-old Kessler has any intention of ever fighting again. Kessler hasn’t fought since losing a close 12 round unanimous decision to IBF/WBA super middleweight champion Carl Froch last year in May.

Super 6: Success or Failure?

froch34434By Jamie Eskdale: The Showtime Super Middleweight Super 6 Boxing Classic may have ended over 2 years ago. However after reviewing the tournament this past week it got me thinking. Was the tournament successful and could it be repeated in different weight classes?

The Super 6 tournament started out with eventual winner Andre Ward, Andre Dirrell, Carl Froch, Jermaine Taylor, Arthur Abraham and Mikkel Kessler. Though during the tournament Andre Dirrell and Mikkel Kessler both withdrew, Kessler with an eye injury and Dirrell for alleged neurological reasons, though some claimed at the time it was because he was scheduled to fight Ward and didn’t fancy it.

Hunter wants Groves, Froch, DeGale or Kessler for Andre Ward

YouTube video
By Scott Gilfoid: Virgil Hunter, the trainer for WBA super middleweight champion Andre Ward (27-0, 14 KO’s), is hoping that one of the following fighters will agree to fight Ward in 2014: Carl Froch, George Groves, James DeGale, and Mikkel Kessler. Hunter has a ton of respect for Groves, and he was really impressed with the job that he did on Froch last November. However, Hunter doesn’t see any of these warriors calling out Ward for a fight for some reason, so Ward will likely have to go in another direction for his next fight in May.

Kessler wants third fight with Froch, willing to fight in London

kessler#11By Scott Gilfoid: Not only is Denmark’s Mikkel Kessler (46-3, 35 KO’s) willing to fight IBF/WBA super middleweight champion Carl Froch (31-2, 22 KO’s) in a 3rd fight, but he also says he’s willing to fight Froch in the UK in London again. Kessler doesn’t care that he might be in a situation where he could need a knockout to win, he still wants to face Froch a third time.

Kessler said to Sky Sports Ringside “I would a third one…I would go back to London. I don’t care. Maybe not a neutral place because wouldn’t recognize us or know about boxing, and would have to travel. So I think we have to do it in London or Copenhagen.”

Kessler says he over-trained for Froch fight

kessler4000By Scott Gilfoid: Mikkel Kessler (46-3, 35 KO’s) realizes now what he did wrong when he got narrowly beaten by IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch (31-2, 22 KO’s) last May in a 12 round unanimous decision defeat in London.

Kessler says he left his best behind in training camp by overdoing it. Kessler did look awfully drained in the fight, especially in the first four rounds and in the 12th.

Kessler wasn’t outworking Froch like he did in their first fight in 2010, and he was just standing around too much letting Froch throw limp noodle-like jabs.

Who’s next for Carl Froch?

froch257By Robbie Bannatyne: Speculation abounds as to who will be the next opponent for IBF/WBA super middleweight champion Carl Froch (31-2, 22 KO’s). After his last fight, a brilliant unanimous victory in the rematch with Mikkel Kessler, the IBF champion expressed his desire to again revenge over the only other man who has beaten him- the undefeated Andre Ward.

A unification bout with Andre Ward and Carl Froch with the Super Middleweight IBF and WBA titles at stake is a mouth watering prospect, as is the possibility of a third epic with the Great Dane. There are certain parallels and similar merits about going into battle with both men again; they would both generate huge profits; they are the most viable fights in the division; and would both capture the imagination of the boxing public on both sides of the Atlantic.
