HBO has 4 names for Froch: Kessler, Ward, Chavez Jr. and Golovkin

froch301By Scott Gilfoid: Promoter Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Sport is saying that HBO has four names that they’d like for Hearn’s fighter IBF/WBA super middleweight champion Carl Froch (31-2, 22 KO’s) to fight on their network in the United States and those are as follows: Andre Ward, Gennady Golovkin, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. and Mikkel Kessler.

Hearn says he wants to match Froch up against Ward next year in the spring. As for the other names, Hearn is planning on putting Froch back in with Kessler before the end of this year if Kessler will agree to a third fight against Froch. Kessler just lost to Froch by a 12 round unanimous decision in their rematch last month on May 25th in London, UK.

Froch: Kessler fight takes priority over Andre Ward rematch

froch257By Scott Gilfoid: Well, it looks like IBF/WBA super middleweight Carl Froch (31-2, 22 KO’s) isn’t too keen on getting back in the ring with the talented WBA super middleweight champion Andre Ward (26-0, 14 KO’s) and taking the risk of getting a second schooling from the American.

Froch is saying that a third fight with Mikkel Kessler takes priority over a rematch with Ward. Froch just beat Kessler last month by a 12 round unanimous decision by the scores 116-112, 115-113 and 118-110 in London, UK.

Froch said to Jenna Jay at Otrboxingradio.com “I’ll leave it to my promoter to decide which route we’ll go but a rematch with Mikkel Kessler…until he’s back we’re not going to know exactly what he wants to do but that will take priority over a rematch with Andre Ward as far as we’re concerned because Andre Ward doesn’t bring much to the table in terms of revenue.”

Hearn’s 2-fight plan for Froch: Kessler or Ward next, then Groves

hearn343By Scott Gilfoid: Matchroom Sport Promoter Eddie Hearn has a two-fight plan for his fighter Carl Froch (31-2, 22 KO’s) involving Froch facing either Mikkel Kessler (46-3, 35 KO’s) or Andre Ward (26-0, 14 KO’s) next before the end of the year, followed by unbeaten George Groves (19-0, 15 KO’s), according to Dan Rafael of ESPN. As you would expect, Hearn is leaning way, way in the direction of putting Froch back in with Kessler for a third fight rather than having Froch face Ward again and getting whipped for a second time.

Hearn said to ESPN “Commercially, Froch versus Kessler III is just a huge fight. The first two were stunning nights and everyone knows what they would get from the decider…we will give Mikkel and his body time to see if he wants to go again.”

Froch: I’d rather fight Kessler than Ward; he’s not entertaining

froch92By Scott Gilfoid: Just as I thought; all the talk that IBF/WBA super middleweight champion Carl Froch (31-2, 22 KO’s) made about being open to fighting Andre Ward in the UK seems to have been nothing more than lip service. Froch is now saying he prefers to fight Mikkel Kessler a third time rather than getting in the ring with the talented 29-year-old Ward.

Froch said to Sky Sports today: “I’d rather fight someone like him [Kessler] than Andre Ward, because Andre Ward is a spoiler and a ‘messer’, he tricks his way through a fight and gets the win. It’s not very entertaining and it’s a horrible fight to be involved in.”

I bet it’s a horrible fight to be involved with because Ward beats the heck out of his opponents for 12 rounds and there’s never fun. So Froch would rather fight Kessler than Ward, eh? Well, there it is. I knew it.

Hearn leaning towards Froch-Kessler 3 instead of Froch-Ward 2

froch9999By Scott Gilfoid: IBF/WBA super middleweight champion Carl Froch’s promoter Eddie Hearn says a rematch between Froch and Mikkel Kessler is the likely next fight for the 35-year-old Froch. Hearn still isn’t entirely sure if that’s going to be Froch’s next fight but that’s the one he says he’s betting will happen next.

Hearn said to I Film London “If I was to put my money on it, I would say the trilogy with Kessler [will happen next]. I just don’t know. It’s not been discussed. I do think that this is a huge fight.”

As far as Kessler vs. Froch being in a neutral venue like the United States, Hearn said “I’m not sure it would have the same buzz, would it? How can you beat [last] Saturday?”

Ward’s trainer: Andre would beat Froch and Kessler on the same night

ward343Andre Ward seen here showing his impressive inside fighting skills here against Carl Froch By Scott Gilfoid: Virgil Hunter, the trainer for WBA super middleweight champion Andre Ward, believes that Carl Froch’s promoter Eddie Hearn would be making a huge mistake if he were to put Froch back in with Ward for a second go round after how easily Ward handled Froch two years ago in beating him by a 12 round decision.

In fact, Hunter sees Ward easily beating Froch and Mikkel Kessler on the same night in back to back fights if there was a way of setting something like that up. George Foreman fought five guys in one night in his mid-20s, so it’s not impossible.

Success of Froch-Kessler 2 could see Sauerland & Hearn make Abraham v Groves

abraham3422By Boxing Muse: The business relationship formed between rival promoters Kalle Sauerland and Eddie Hearn in the organization of Froch V Kessler 2 could mean a possible match up of Armenian born German slugger ‘King’ Arthur Abraham and English young lion ‘Saint’ George Groves.

The historic rivalry between Germany and England under the rules of Queensbury plus the clash of these two boxer’s style surely leads to an exciting fight that would surely enthrall fans on both sides, if it was set in Germany or England.

Hometown advantage in boxing?

froch644By Omar Torres: IBF/WBA super middleweight champion Carl Froch (31-2, 22 KO’s) has been quoted saying that he can beat Andre Ward in his hometown of England. But last I remember a squared circle is a squared circle where ever it is. I understand that the fans are behind their hometown hero and may fuel him to win, but I think it can work the other way around for the visiting boxer.

He can be fueled by the boo’s and the hate and also with the idea of knocking out the hometown hero in front of his own fans. I think when it comes to boxing It’s non-sense to say that you can beat someone in your home turf because a boxers skill sets are the same where ever they go.

Carl Froch willing to fight Kessler in a neutral venue

froch305By Dominic Sauboorah: WBA and IBF Super Middleweight champion Carl Froch (31-2 20 KO’s) stated in his post-fight press conference how he’s willing to fight Mikkel Kessler (46-3 35 KO’s) for a third time in a neutral venue. I think it’s fair as they’ve both fought on each others home turfs and both have a win over one another, so the third one could be seen as the decider.

Despite the great performance Froch put in the fight was closer than what the judges suggested. I had Froch winning by one round considering that Kessler came on strong in the middle rounds and had Froch badly hurt in the 11th. Nevertheless I do believe that the best man won. A third fight would be a treat for the fans and the fact that they’re talking about staging it at a neutral venue shows the character of the two men and how they’re willing to fight anywhere.
