De La Hoya: Mayweather looked tired against Maidana

By Dan Ambrose: Golden Boy Promotions Oscar De La Hoya says he was surprised by the movement and the overall fatigue that he saw from WBA/WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr in his 12 round unanimous decision win over Golden Boy fighter Marcos Maidana on September 13th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Amir “King” Khan v. Marcos “El Chino” Maidana 2: Make it happen

maidana454By Carlos Rivera: In all likelihood Floyd “Money” Mayweather will not be fighting Amir Khan next May. His comments about Khan’s unfinished business is indicative of that. So instead of spending time on the Mayweather Sweepstakes Khan needs to focus on an exciting fight that will give him credibility and a fight that myself, and many many others would love to see. Khan v. Maidana 2. And to really make that event and EVENT, Brook v. Thurman needs to be on that undercard.

To many, Amir Khan’s victory over El Chino Maidana was a fluke. To much interference by the ref and hugging by King Khan. The perfect way for El Chino to bounce back from these Mayweather fights is to avenge his loss to Amir Khan and to do so convincingly. This fight also has an upside for Amir Khan. If he can escape with a victory he would be in a much better position to secure a fight against Mayweather at the end of 2015.

Whats next for Maidana?

maidana4566By Gav Duthie: Despite two defeats in 2014 for Marcos Maidana the Argentine has probably enhanced his reputation after running Floyd Mayweather Jr close on both occasions. His record now stands at 35-5 (31) and his next bout is crucial in shaping his future career. Many will be looking at Maidana as a stepping stone to big fights and will rightly feel a convincing win over him may lead to a fight with Mayweather himself.

Adrien Broner 2

Adrien Broner has said on a few occasions he wants the fight but I don’t think any of his team does. His trainer even recently stated that he didn’t want him to fight Lucas Matthysse next. After watching him in has last few fights its probably a good idea to keep him away from strong pressure fighters because of his lack of footwork.

Floyd Mayweather Jr: A Reply to the Critics

floyd66888By Joshua Blessman: I recently wrote an article on Boxing News 24 entitled “Floyd Mayweather Jr: The Best Ever and Why the “O” Matters.” In it, I contend that Floyd Mayweather Jr. (47-0, 26 KOs) is truly The Best Ever (TBE) because he is the most extraordinary athlete the sport has ever seen and the only elite fighter in the history of boxing to face the top level-opposition of his time and remain undefeated. As anticipated, my position was met with criticism in the form of comments. Many of these comments are the same that I have heard in different media outlets. While these criticisms may seem valid, they lack serious merit.

Below are my responses to common criticisms of Mayweather that have been presented by boxing commentators in various media forums.

Arum: Mayweather’s PPV numbers have been going down

floyd945By Raj Parmar: Top Rank chief Bob Arum has weighed in on what the possible pay per view buys may be for the rematch between pound for pound king Floyd Mayweather (47-0, 26 KO’s) and Marcos Maidana (35-5, 31 KO’s) that took place over the weekend. While most expected the pay per view figures to likely be around the 900,000 buys the first fight was said to have generated, Arum feels the fight did far worse.

“His [Floyd’s] PPV numbers have been going down considerably. For example his numbers from the Maidana fight were considerably less than the first fight and less than [Manny] Pacquiao did when he fought [Timothy] Bradley [rematch in April],” Arum stated as per scmp.com, “What that tells us is that people are getting disgusted with Mayweather and his base is eroding.”
