By Carlos Rivera: In all likelihood Floyd “Money” Mayweather will not be fighting Amir Khan next May. His comments about Khan’s unfinished business is indicative of that. So instead of spending time on the Mayweather Sweepstakes Khan needs to focus on an exciting fight that will give him credibility and a fight that myself, and many many others would love to see. Khan v. Maidana 2. And to really make that event and EVENT, Brook v. Thurman needs to be on that undercard.
To many, Amir Khan’s victory over El Chino Maidana was a fluke. To much interference by the ref and hugging by King Khan. The perfect way for El Chino to bounce back from these Mayweather fights is to avenge his loss to Amir Khan and to do so convincingly. This fight also has an upside for Amir Khan. If he can escape with a victory he would be in a much better position to secure a fight against Mayweather at the end of 2015.
If he plans to rest on his laurels in hopes of landing the Mayweather fight in May, he really needs to remember how well that worked out last time. And as long as he fights cupcakes he will not have “earned” the chance at Floyd.
As for Keith “One Time” Thurman v. Kell Brook, who doesn’t want to see that? Kell Brook is a man on a mission to prove himself. After taking care of the up and comer Shawn Porter it would do wonders for his career if he was to defeat Thurman as well. Keith Thurman on the other hand has yet to truly be tested. He says it’s because people are ducking him. Let Kell Brook be that test. Let’s have these two young bulls meet in the ring and sort things out.
Want to make this even more intriguing? Let’s have this card in the UK at Wembley Stadium. This card would definitely sell out Wembley. While neither fight would carry a PPV on its own, I can guarantee that together they would have great PPV sales. Everyone wins. Everyone.
These fights are the kind of fights that boxing fans and fight fans in general would love to see. Everyone comes in with something to prove. With the fire and desire to dominate. I’ll be here crossing my fingers hoping that this will magically come to fruition.
