By Chris Williams: Marcos Antonio Barrera (67-7, 44 KO’s) looked good on Saturday night in moving up to light welterweight to stop 43-year-old Jose Arias (15-2, 9 KOs) at the Coliseo Olimpico at the Universidad de Guadalajara in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico.

Marco Antonio Barrera vs. Likar Ramos on December 11th
By Jim Dower: 36-year-old former three division world champion Marco Antonio Barrera (66-7, 43 KO’s) will be making his ring return on December 11th against little known 25-year-old Likar Ramos (23-3, 17 KO’s), according to Fightnews.com. The fight will be taking place in Mexico. Barrera won his last fight over Adailton De Jesus by a 10 round unanimous decision in June of this year in what looked like a sparring match for the most part. Before that, Barrera had been dominated by Amir Khan in a 5th round technical decision loss in March 2009.
Barrera thinks it will be difficult for Margarito to catch Pacquiao
By David Lahr: Marco Antonio Barrera, who has twice been beaten by Pacquiao in 2003 and 2007, thinks Antonio Margarito might have a tough time catching Manny Pacquiao with his shots in their fight on November 13th at the Cowboy Stadium. In an article at the Examiner.com, Barrera says “Antonio has a peculiar style which will enable him to put on a great show. If he can catch Pacquiao with one or two shots, it will be a different story, but it will be difficult for him to catch Pacquiao.” Barrera may not have seen Pacquiao’s last fight against Joshua Clottey in March, because Pacquiao was getting caught early and often throughout the fight. It’s a whole different story now that Pacquiao isn’t fighting little guys like David Diaz and Ricky Hatton anymore.
Arum not sure who will win – Barrera or Soto
By Dan Ambrose: Top Rank promoter Bob Arum has set 36-year-old Marco Antonio Barrera (66-7, 43 KO’s) with a title shot against World Boxing Council lightweight champion Humberto Soto (52-7-2, 32 KO’s) on September 11th in Mexico City. Despite Barrera having lost three out of his last six fights with his only wins coming against 2nd tier opposition, Arum thinks that Barrera can win a 4th world title.
Barrera likely to fight Soto next
By Eric Thomas: 36-year-old Marco Antonio Barrera (66-7, 43 KO’s), despite little real success against top level opposition in the past three years, has his pick of which lightweight champion he wants to fight next. Barrera can fight either World Boxing Council (WBC) lightweight champion Humberto Soto (52-7-2, 32 KO’s) or the WBA lightweight title holder Miguel Acosta (27-3-2, 21 KO’s). Both are equally formidable fighters and perhaps a couple steps too far for the aging Barrera to beat at this point.
Barrera not impressive in beating De Jesus, doesn’t look ready for Soto or Acosta
By Jason Kim: Three time world champion Marco Antonio Barrera (66-7, 43 KO’s) put in a pedestrian performance on Saturday night in beating Brazilian lightweight Adailton De Jesus (26-5, 21 KO’s) by a dull 10 round unanimous decision on the undercard of the Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. vs. John Duddy bout at the Alamodome, in San Antonio, Texas.
Barrera defeats De Jesus by lopsided 10 round decision
By Jim Dower: Fighting for the first time in over a year, three-time world champion, 36-year-old Marco Antonio Barrera (66-7, 43 KO’s) got back on the winning track, defeating a very passive Adailton De Jesus (26-5, 21 KO’s) by a one-sided 10 round unanimous decision in lightweight action on the undercard of the Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. vs. John Duddy bout at the Alamodome, in San Antonio, Texas. The final judges’ scores were 100-90, 98-92 and 99-91, all for Barrera. I scored the fight 100-90 for Barrera.
Is Chavez-Duddy and Barrera-De Jesus worth $39.95?
Photo: Rafael Soto/Top Rank – By Chris Williams: I really love boxing and I am all for the fighters getting a good payday, but I’m not exactly eager about the thought of paying $39.95 to watch Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. fight John Duddy and Marco Antonio Barrera go at it with Adailton De Jesus. I like good boxing, competitive fights and seeing huge stars when I’m paying for a fight card. However, I don’t see any fight on the this Saturday’s Latin Fury 15 card that would make me want to pay to watch it. Chavez and Duddy are the main even, which is really hard for me to believe, because I don’t see either of them as 1st tier fighters.
Arum says he wants Barrera to win a title and defend it a couple of times
Photo: Rafael Soto/Top Rank – By Chris Williams: At the final press conference for fighters John Duddy, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. and Marco Antonio Barrera (65-7, 43 KO’s), Top Rank promoter Bob Arum said this about the 36-year-old Barrera: “My goal is to do the rest of his [Barrera] for his brilliant career and to bring to the point where he wins four world championships and maybe has a defense or two of those world titles and make some really good money and send him off to a proper retirement.”
Given how poor Barrera has looked in the past three years, losing three out of his last five fights, doesn’t seem kind of unrealistic for Barrera to win a title at this point in his career?
Boxing’s Three Amigos: Erik Morales, Marco Antonio Barrera & Juan Manuel Marquez
By Stuart Young: Unquestionably the most revered boxing sons to come out of Mexico since the great Julio Cesar Chavez.
It seems with their ‘boxing lifespan’ either over or seemingly on the wane, now would be as good a time as any, to look back over their careers & try to determine which of this famous trio of fighters history will judge more favourably.
