Charr puts in poor effort against Vitali in 4th round stoppage loss

Image: Charr puts in poor effort against Vitali in 4th round stoppage lossBy Allan Fox: #7 WBC contender Manuel Charr (21-1, 11 KO’s) is probably feeling pretty low tonight after putting in an extremely poor effort in losing a 4th round stoppage defeat against WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko (45-2, 41 KO’s) on Saturday night at the Olimpiyskiy, in Moscow, Russia.

Charr was cut in the 4th round over his right eye and the referee quickly halted the action and marched Charr over to the ringside doctor to examine the cut. The cut really didn’t look that bad. However, the doctor halted it anyway much to the unhappiness of the large mostly Russian crowd in Moscow.

Klitschko destroys Charr; Abdusalamov defeats McCline, looks poor

Image: Klitschko destroys Charr; Abdusalamov defeats McCline, looks poorBy Jim Dower: Unbeaten heavyweight contender Magomed Abdusalamov (16-0, 16 KO’s) survived a 1st round knockdown from 42-year-old journeyman Jameel McCline (41-14-3, 24 KO’s) to come back and stop McCline with a jab to the head in the 2nd round on Saturday night on the Vitali Klitschko vs. Manuel Charr undercard at the Olimpiyskiy, in Moscow, Russia.

In the 1st round, McCline shocked Abdusalamov by coming out fast and knocking him down with a hard right hand to the head. Abdusalamov was seriously hurt and stayed down for a long time. Had McCline not fought timidly after Abdusalamov got back to his feet he likely would have stopped him with no problems because he was hitting him with every right hand he threw.

An easy win for Vitali tonight over Charr could increase chances for Haye fight

Image: An easy win for Vitali tonight over Charr could increase chances for Haye fightBy Sean McDaniel: If WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko (44-2, 40 KO’s) can make quick work of unbeaten challenger Manuel Charr (21-0, 11 KO’s) tonight it will increase the possibilities that Vitali will return early in 2013, if not late 2012, to face Britain’s David Haye in a mega fight. Vitali needs an impressive confidence booster in order to take on a fighter as dangerous as Haye.

Vitali really struggled in his last fight agaisnt Dereck Chisora last February and looked slow and tired through much of the fight. While you can blame a big portion of Vitali’s problems in that fight in him injuring his left shoulder early in the fight there’s still no getting away from the fact that Vitali wore down under the pressure from Chisora. Charr, 27, is even younger than Chisora, and he’ll have seen how Vitali had problems with the pressure in that fight. Charr will try and walk Vitali down the same way that Chisora did to get the 41-year-old Vitali to use up his energy as early as possible in the fight.

Vitali defends WBC heavyweight title against Charr tonight

Image: Vitali defends WBC heavyweight title against Charr tonightBy Allan Fox: WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko (44-2, 40 KO’s) is ready to make his 9th title defense tonight agaisnt challenger Manuel Charr (21-0, 11 KO’s) at the Olimpiyskiy, in Moscow, Russia. This fight shapes up to be one of Vitali’s easiest title defenses in many years, because Charr doesn’t have the style to get away from Vitali’s big shots like many of Vitali’s other over-matched opposition.

Charr, 27, is like a walking punching bag with arms without the speed to fire back. Vitali isn’t a very fast puncher either, but Charr is even slower than him and he’s really struggled against weak opposition.

Weights: Vitali 248, Charr 241.4

YouTube video
By Jim Dower: WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko (44-2, 40 KO’s) weighed in earlier today for his fight tomorrow night agaisnt #7 WBC Manuel Charrl (21-0, 11 KO’s) at the Olimpiyskiy, in Moscow, Russia. The 41-year-old Vitali came in seven pounds heavier than Charr at 248 pounds. Charr, 27, weighed in at 241.4 lbs, which is about what he’s been weighing in past fights.

This will be the 41-year-old Vitali’s 9th title defense of his World Boxing Council heavyweight crown and it will likely be his last unless former WBA heavyweight champion David Haye is able to coax Vitali into stepping inside the ring one last time for a big money fight next year.

Charr believes he will defeat Klitschko

Image: Charr believes he will defeat KlitschkoBy John F. McKenna (McJack): Heavyweight contender Manuel Charr (21-0, 11 KO’s), who faces WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko (44-2, 40 KO’s) on Saturday night really believes he will be victorious when they clash at the Olympiyskiy Arena in Moscow. The unbeaten Charr is currently ranked at #7 in the WBC standings.

While every contender for the heavyweight title verbally expresses confidence, Manuel seems to be genuine in his conviction that he will emerge victorious in what will be the biggest fight of his life against “Dr. Ironfist”. Charr has worked in the past with Klitschko’s coach Fritz Sdunek and for that reason believes he knows the tactics the huge Ukrainian will employ against him on Saturday night.

Will Charr be a true test for Vitali?

Image: Will Charr be a true test for Vitali?(Photo credit: KMG/Michael Sterling) By John F. McKenna (McJack): WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko (44-2, 40 KO’s) will be taking on the undefeated but largely unknown Manuel Charr (21-0, 11 KO’s) this Saturday night at the Olympiyskiy Arena in Moscow. At this point it is unknown whether Charr will be Klitschko’s last opponent before he retires to go into the political arena.

“Dr. Ironfist” has taken a considerable amount of heat for taking on the lightly regarded Charr. In fairness to Vitali however, his manager Bernd Boente had attempted to line up a match with former WBA heavyweight champion David Haye (26-2, 24 KO’s). Haye however opted to take on Dereck Chisora (15-4, 9 KO’s) who gave a good account of himself against Vitali last February.

Charr vs. Vitali this Saturday night in Moscow

Image: Charr vs. Vitali this Saturday night in MoscowBy Jason Kim: WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko (44-2, 40 KO’s) will be defending his World Boxing Council title against unbeaten challenger Manuel Charr (21-0, 11 KO’s) on Saturday night in a fight televised by HBO at the Olympiyskiy in Moscow, Russia. This could be the 41-year-old Vitali’s last fight of his career depending on whether he gets elected to office in the Ukrainian parliament elections in October.

Vitali, 6’7″, has lost a couple of steps in the last year and he’s now looking more beatable than he ever has before. In his last fight, Vitali labored to a 12 round unanimous decision against Dereck Chisora in February of this year in Munich, Germany. Chisora exposed Vitali’s stamina problems by pressuring him throughout the fight and forcing Vitali to work a lot harder than he wanted to. What perhaps kept Chisora from winning the fight was his inability to throw enough punches to stay competitive for the full 12.

Charr’s power advantage could be negated by the 6’7″ Vitali’s height advantage over the 6’3 1/2″ Charr.

Vitali needs to get Charr out of there quick on September 8th

Image: Vitali needs to get Charr out of there quick on September 8thBy Jason Kim: On September 8th, 41-year-old WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko (44-2, 40 KO’s) can’t afford to let unbeaten 27-year-old contender Manuel Charr (21-0, 11 KO’s) hang around for 12 rounds like he did last February in Vitali’s win over Dereck Chisora. Vitali ended up gassing out in that fight and looking bad from the constant pressure that Chisora was able to put on him.
