Judah vs. Garcia winner must face Matthysse next, says WBC

matthysse8By Dan Ambrose: It looks like WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia (25-0, 16 KO’s) will finally have to face WBC interim light welterweight champion Lucas Matthysse (33-2, 31 KO’s) if Garcia can get past his next title defense against Zab Judah (42-7, 29 KO’s) on April 27th at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

The World Boxing Council has ordered the Judah-Garcia winner to fight Matthysse in their next fight, according to fightnews.com. That’s probably not what Judah and Garcia wanted to hear because Matthysse is probably the most dangerous fighter in the 140 pound division right now, and he may be the #1 fighter at this weight.

Will the WBC force Danny Garcia to fight Matthysse?

matthysse11By Dan Ambrose: Now that WBC interim light welterweight champion Lucas Matthysse (33-2, 31 KO’s) blown through yet another opponent and proven himself as arguably the #1 fighter at 140, it’s going to be interesting to see if the World Boxing Council will finally do their job by forcing the WBC 140 pound champion Danny Garcia to fight Matthysse or if they’ll continue to let Garcia pick and choose from the aging veterans of the sport.

Matthysse, 30, is Garcia’s mandatory challenger, and he wants the title shot while he’s still young. Garcia is 24, so if the WBC doesn’t force Garcia to fight Matthysse, we could see Garcia continuing to milk his title with fights the older guys instead of Matthysse.

Matthysse: I don’t need judges anymore; I hope Garcia doesn’t avoid me

16(Photo credit: Naoki Fakuda) By Allan Fox: WBC interim light welterweight champion Lucas Matthysse (33-2, 31 KO’s) decided after suffering two controversial losses in the United States to Zab Judah and Devon Alexander that he was no longer going to let the judges have any say so in his fights in the U.S, and so he’s turned the judges into meaningless spectators the last three times he’s fought in the U.S by knocking out all three of his opponents.

Last night, Matthysse stopped Mike Dallas Jr. (19-3-1, 8 KO’s) in the 1st round at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. Matthysse flattened an overanxious Dallas Jr. with a solid right to the head that sent Dallas Jr. down face first on the canvas.

Byrd: Dallas Jr. fought the wrong fight against Matthysse

YouTube video
By Allan Fox: Former heavyweight champion Chris Byrd correctly pointed out that challenger Mike Dallas Jr. (19-3-1, 8 KO’s) used the wrong fighting style tonight against WBC light welterweight interim champion Lucas Matthysse (33-2, 31 KO’s) in Dallas Jr’s 1st round knockout loss on Showtime at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. Byrd thinks Dallas Jr. should have known better than to try and slug with a big puncher like Matthysse, and he thinks he should have hung back and boxed for 12 rounds.

Matthysse looking past Dallas Jr, wants Danny Garcia

matthysse22By Allan Fox: WBC interim light welterweight champion Lucas Matthysse (32-2, 30 KO’s) has his eyes on a big fight against WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia this year if he can get him to agree to fight him. Matthysse has a fight scheduled this Saturday night against Mike Dallas Jr. (19-2-1, 8 KO’s) at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, The Joint, in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.

After that fight Matthysse wants Garcia in his next bout. The World Boxing Council has already ordered Garcia to fight Matthysse the end of the year, and if that fails to take place then Garcia will almost surely be stripped of his WBC title. He would still have his WBA belt, so there’s a possibility that he may choose not to fight Matthysse.

Will the WBC force Danny Garcia to fight Matthysse this year?

matthysse1By Dan Ambrose: WBC interim light welterweight champion Lucas Matthysse is the mandatory challenger for WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia, and he’s hoping that Garcia will finally agree to fight him after the two of them get past their next opponents. Matthysse faces Mike Dallas Jr. this Saturday night on Showtime in Las Vegas, Nevada, and Garcia defends his WBA/WBC light welterweight titles against 35-year-old Zab Judah next month on February 9th in Brooklyn, New York.

Matthysse wants to fight Garcia after the Dallas Jr. fight, but it’s unclear if Garcia will agree to take that fight because his promoter Richard Schaefer of Golden Boy Promotions is talking about having Garcia fight former IBF/WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan after. The Khan fight is a much bigger money bout for Garcia than the Matthysse fight, and it doesn’t take a genius to see that’s going to be the one that Garcia goes after next following his defense against Judah.

Matthysse-Dallas Jr: Lucas needs to win impressively

matthysseBy Allan Fox: WBC interim light welterweight champion Lucas Matthysse (32-2, 30 KO’s) is hoping to attract interest in a fight later this year between him and WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia. That’s the fight that Matthysse has been looking for and he could be on the verge of getting it as long as he wins his next fight on January 26th against Mike Dallas Jr. (19-2-1, 8 KO’s) at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, in Las Vegas, Nevada.

In this case it’s not just about winning the fight but looking good in doing so.

Matthysse will no doubt be winning on January 26th against the light hitting Dallas Jr., but he’s got to win in such a manner that boxing fans are interested in seeing him fight Danny Garcia. That means that Matthysse can’t afford to struggle in this fight. He’s got to knock Dallas Jr. out just as Josesito Lopez did two years ago in January 2011.

Brandon Rios wants Danny Garcia or Matthysse after Alvarado rematch in March

rios343By Chris Williams: Top Rank fighter Brandon Rios (31-0-1, 25 KO’s) looks to be heading for an unnecessary rematch against Mike Alvarado in late March. It’s a strange fight that Bob Arum has put together because there’s no real point in this rematch taking place because Rios destroyed Alvarado last October in a 7th round knockout victory, but Arum thinks boxing fans want to see the fight again so he’s going to shove it down their throats instead of putting Rios in with some new blood.

Rios says wants to fight WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia or interim WBC light welterweight champion Lucas Matthysse this year.

Rios said to Jenna Jay at doghouseboxing.com “My goal is to fight Danny Garcia for the WBC title belt, because that’s the belt I want. I would love to fight Lucas Matthysse.”

Virgil Hunter helping Dallas Jr. prepare for Matthysse

matthysse2By Jason Kim: On January 26th, we’re going to see how magical trainer Virgil Hunter when his fighter Mike Dallas Jr. (19-2-1, 8 KO’s) faces WBC interim light welterweight champion Lucas Matthysse (32-2, 30 KO’s) for his title at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, The Joint, in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.

This is going to be a real test to see the genius of Hunter at work because his fighter Dallas Jr. is over-matched on paper by the stronger Matthysse, and it’s going to take a special training job by Hunter for Dallas Jr. to win.

Dallas Jr. said “Virgil is the master when it comes to game planning for a big fight…Matthysse has been beaten before and I’m confident I can beat him.”

Aydin vs. Soto-Karass, Matthysse vs. Dallas Jr. on 1/26

aydin4521345By Jason Kim: #3 WBC welterweight contender Selcuk Aydin (23-1, 17 KO’s) will be fighting for the first time with new trainer Adam Booth on January 26h against Jesus Soto-Karass (26-8-3, 17 KO’s0 at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Aydin, 29, lost his last fight to former three division world champion Robert Guerrero by a 12 round unanimous decision in July of last year. Although Aydin looked powerful with his shots, he looked incredibly raw for a fighter with six year of pro experience under his belt and he performed poorly other than when he was landing big power shots.
