Wladimir Klitschko faces Kubrat Pulev in easy title defense on September 6th

wladimir454By Anthony Mason: Wladimir Klitschko will be fighting Kubrat Pulev in a few months time. Once again, Klitschko is able to pad up his title defenses against a weak heavyweight. Pulev may very well be the best option available, but that doesn’t change the fact that it is a weak option. As always with Klitschko, he is the beneficiary of a watered down era where he can accumulate meaningless and worthless title defenses against weak competition.

Unlike Joe Louis, who actually fought in a legitimate heavyweight era, Wladimir’s competition epitomizes a Bum of the Month club. At least when Joe Louis lost, he was losing to the likes of Max Schmeling, Ezzard Charles, and Rocky Marciano. Who did Wladimir lose to? Three D-level boxers in Corrie Sanders, Ross Purrity, and Lamon Brewster.

Klitsachko-Pulev a done deal for September 6th at O2 World Arena, Hamburg, Germany

pulevBy Scott Gilfoid: IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (62-3, 52 KO’s) will be making his next defense against 6’4 ½” Kubrat Pulev (20-0, 11 KO’s) on September 6th at the O2 World Arena, Altona, in Hamburg, Germany. Pulev is the IBF mandatory challenger, so he gets to be the next guy that the 6’6” Wladimir faces.

Pulev has been bellyaching about wanting a title shot against Wladimir for a while now, and finally has his shot. Unfortunately the odds of him doing any better than Wladimir’s last opponent Alex Leapai are virtually nonexistent, due to Pulev’s complete lack of punching power. At least with Leapai, there was a slight chance he might land one of his big power shots to knock Wladimir out. But with Pulev, he just jabs and slaps with his shots, and he doesn’t have the power to make it a decent fight.

IBF orders Klitschko-Pulev purse bids on June 17th, no WBC unification fight for Wladimir

wladimir4322457By Allan Fox: IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (62-3, 52 KO’s) can forget about a unification fight against WBC heavyweight champion Bermane Stiverne, because the International Boxing Federation has ordered a purse bid on June 17th between Wladimir and the Sauerland Events promoted #1 IBF mandatory challenger Kubrat Pulev (20-0, 11 KO’s), according to Germany news publication Bild.de.

Wladimir had been hoping to face Stiverne in order to try and capture his older brother Vitali Klitschko’s old WBC heavyweight belt. This is the only remaining title that is not in the possession of Wladimir, and he was hoping to take on the much smaller 6’2” Stiverne to pick up the strap. With the IBF ordering the purse bids between Wladimir and Pulev’s management, it complicates things for Wladimir, because he now has to take on the formidable 6’4 ½” Pulev next in a fight that is tentatively scheduled for September 6th at the O2 World Arena, Altona, Hamburg, Germany.

Klitschko vs. Pulev on Sept 6th in Germany?

wladimir67By Bradley Dee: Yesterday I received a clarification letter from the president of the WBC stating that Bermane Stiverne must face his mandatory challenger unless Deontay Wilder agrees to step aside money.

Today, the WBC Website has the following statement on their news page:
——————
The desire of Wladimir Klitschko to become the absolute heavyweight champion of the world will have to hang fire… for the moment.

WBC President Mauricio Sulaimán, said that Wladimir will have to wait for the title shot against current champion Bermane Stiverne, because he first has to face his mandatory rival.

IBF orders Wladimir to face Pulev next

pulev42(Picture: Photo Wende) By Scott Gilfoid: The International Boxing Federation (IBF) has ordered IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (62-3, 52 KO’s) to face No.1 IBF mandatory challenger Kubrat Pulev (20-0, 11 KO’s) next. Wladimir now has to face one of his toughest tests in perhaps 10 years in fighting the 6’4 1/2″ Pulev. I previously thought Pulev had no chance of beating Wladimir, but after seeing the improvement in Pulev’s game in his last two fights, I believe he’s now good enough to possibly beat Wladimir.

This can’t be good news for Wladimir, because Pulev, if nothing else, is a jabbing machine and he could pull off a minor upset in beating the 6’6″ Wladimir. In fact, I see the fight as a 50-50 proposition due to Pulev’s jab, youth, size and excellent body punching. Until recently, Pulev was more of a jabber, but he’s added body punching to his arsenal and that’s made him a much better fighter offensively.

Pulev’s promoter Kalle Sauerland said on his twitter “Confirmed: Klitschko must face Kubrat Pulev next as ordered by the IBF.”

Pulev stops Perkovic, fails to impress

pulevBy Scott Gilfoid: #1 IBF heavyweight contender Kubrat Pulev (20-0, 11 KO’s) defeated a flabby looking 39-year-old journeyman Ivica Perkovic (20-24, 15 KO’s) by a 3rd round stoppage on Saturday night at Stadthalle, Rostock, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany. Perkovic, with his nose bleeding from a steady diet of jabs he’d been eating, quit at the end of the 3rd round rather than come out for the 4th round.

Pulev, 6’4 1/2″, looked weak, and threw mostly jabs in the fight. Each time Perkovic would attempt a wild shot, Pulev would retreat backwards as if he were burned by a hot iron. To say that Pulev fought timidly is putting it lightly. He fought like Perkovic was a knockout artist.

Pulev now facing Perkovic on Saturday

pulev5By Jim Dower: Unbeaten heavyweight contender Kubrat Pulev (19-0, 10 KO’s) is now fighting 39-year-old journeyman Ivica Perkovic (20-23, 15 KO’s) on Saturday night instead of the opponent that was mentioned earlier today in Danny Hughes. The Pulev-Perkovic fight is scheduled for 8 rounds on the undercard of the Jurgen Braehmer vs. Enzo Maccarinelli fight at the Stadthalle, Rostock, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany.

Pulev’s promoters have had an awful tough time trying to find an opponent for him, and it’s made them look kind of bad with the huge number of fights that have fallen apart.

Kubrat Pulev vs. Danny Hughes this Saturday, April 5th in Germany

pulev8By Jim Dower: #1 IBF Kubrat Pulev (19-0, 10 KO’s) will be facing his third scheduled opponent for this Saturday night in Danny Hughes (12-2-2, 3 KO’s) in a scheduled 8 round bout at the Stadthalle, Rostock, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany. Pulev was previously scheduled to fight Ellijah McCall and then Joey Dawejko, but both of those fights fell apart for various reasons.

Pulev, 6’4 ½”, sees himself as an avoided fighter by other heavyweights. He’s already the IBF mandatory challenger to IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko. He won’t have to worry about Wladimir avoiding him, because he’ll be a huge underdog against him due to his lack of punching power.
