Kubrat Pulev vs. Joey Dawejko this Saturday night in Germany

pulev5By Allan Fox: IBF mandatory heavyweight challenger Kubrat Pulev (19-0, 10 KO’s) finally has an opponent for his scheduled 8-round fight on Saturday night on the undercard of the Enzo Maccarinelli vs. Jurgen Braehmer card at the Stadhalle, Rostock, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany.

Pulev will be fighting the 23-year-old Joey Dawejko (9-3-2, 3 KO’s). Pulev was rumored to be fighting Ellijah McCall, but he chose not to take the fight against him. Pulev’s promoters were then forced to hunt down Dawejko and have him fill in at the last second.

Kubrat Pulev in action on April 5th in tune-up bout

pulev5By Allan Fox: #1 IBF heavyweight contender Kubrat Pulev (19-0, 10 KO’s) will be fighting next week against an opponent still to be determined in an 8 round stay busy fight at the Stadthalle, Rostock, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany. Pulev, 32, has already nailed down the mandatory IBF spot to challenge IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko later on this year after beating Tony Thompson by a 12 round unanimous decision last year in August.

Pulev has been waiting ever since then for his eventual title shot against Wladimir, but his waiting will be over later this year when he finally meets up with the 6’6” Ukrainian world champion.

Weights: Pulev 253.8, Abell 248.5

_V6P3349(Photo Wende) By Allan Fox: IBF International heavyweight champion Kubrat Pulev (18-0, 9 KO’s) weighed in today for his title defense against Joey Abell (29-6, 28 KO’s) on Saturday night at the Jahnsportforum, Neubrandenburg, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany. The 6’4 1/2″ Pulev weighed in at at a solid looking 253.8 lbs. This is slightly heavier than what the 32-year-old Pulev weighed in at for his last fight against Tony Thompson last August. Pulev came in at 252 3/4 lbs. and easily won the fight by a 12 round unanimous decision.

Pulev’s opponent 32-year-old Abell weighed in at 248.5 lbs. This is 8.5 lbs heavier than Abell’s last fight against Maurenzo Smith last July, and more than what Abell usually weighs. However, he’s a replacement opponent for Pulev after the originally scheduled fighter Sherman Williams suffered an injury during training and couldn’t make the weight.

Kubrat Pulev vs. Joey Abell this Saturday in Germany

pulev5By Eric Thomas: Unbeaten Kubrat Pulev (18-0, 9 KO’s) will be playing it safe this Saturday night in a scheduled defense of his IBF International heavyweight title against replacement opponent Joey Abell (29-6, 28 KO’s) Jahnsportforum, Neubrandenburg, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany.

Pulev, 32, was supposed to be fighting journeyman Sherman Williams but he suffered an injury while training and had to be replaced by Abell. There’s really not much difference between Williams and Abell. Pulev’s handlers didn’t pick a really good opponent for him because they don’t risk him getting beaten and losing out on his payday fight against IBF heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko.

Pulev says he wasn’t in top form for Thompson fight

Tony Thompson, Kubrat Pulev(Photo Wende) By Scott Gilfoid: It looks like unbeaten Bulgarian heavyweight Kubrat Pulev (18-0, 9 KO’s) wasn’t altogether pleased with his 12 round unanimous decision win over 41-year-old Tony Thompson (38-4, 26 KO’s) in Germany last Saturday night. Pulev won the fight by the scores of 116-112, 118-110, and 117-111.

However, he looked far from impressive. You can really say that the only reason Pulev won the fight was because Thompson got tired. I had Thompson winning the first four rounds, as did many other boxing fans who saw the fight.

The win now makes the 6’4 ½” Pulev the mandatory challenger for IBF heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko, but Wladimir did a lot better job in beating Thompson than Pulev did. Pulev had to struggle to win; whereas Wladimir crushed Thompson in 6 rounds last year in July in their 2nd fight together.

Deontay Wilder would beat Kubrat Pulev

deontay4444By Scott Gilfoid: Having just seen Kubrat Pulev’s unimpressive 12 round unanimous decision win over Tony Thompson (38-4, 26 KO’s) tonight at the Sport and Congress Center, Schwerin, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany, I have no doubt in my mind that unbeaten American heavyweight knockout artist Deontay Wilder (29-0, 29 KO’s) would have knocked the Bulgarian Pulev out if he had been in the ring tonight with him instead of the 41-year-old Thompson.

Pulev won the fight after Thompson got tired after four rounds, but it wouldn’t take that long for Deontay to destroy Pulev. I mean, Pulev wouldn’t even make it past the 4th round against the 6’7” Deontay. You saw how easy it was for Thompson to nail Pulev with his power shots. Well, those same power shots that Thompson were landing against Pulev would be potential knockout shots with Deontay landing them.

Tony Thompson vs. Kubrat Pulev tonight in Germany

Boxen, Wiegen in Schwerin, Kubrat Pulev, Thony Thomsen(Photo credit: Wende) By Allan Fox: Tonight unbeaten heavyweight contender Kubrat Pulev (17-0, 9 KO’s) will get a chance to prove whether he actually deserves a title shot against IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko when he faces Tony Thompson (38-3, 26 KO’s) in a scheduled 12 round bout at the Sport and Congress Center, Schwerin, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany.

Pulev, 32, has been saying that none of the heavyweight contenders want to fight him, but the 6’5” Thompson has stepped up to face him. Pulev will now have to prove that he can beat his first quality opponent of his career. Up until now, Pulev’s German handlers have been extremely careful with the opponents he’s been put in with.

In a way, Pulev has been matched a lot like German based heavyweight contender Manuel Charr. Pulev has wins over Alexander Ustinov, Alexander Dimitrenko, Michael Sprott, Travis Walker, Derric Rossy, and Dominick Guinn.

Thompson with 11 lb. weight advantage over Kubrat Pulev

Boxen, Wiegen in Schwerin, Kubrat Pulev, Thony Thomsen(Photo credit: Photo Wende) By Allan Fox: Tony Thompson (38-3, 26 KO’s) weighed in at a career high weight of 263.9 lbs. for his fight on Saturday night against undefeated heavyweight Kubrat Pulev (17-0, 9 KO’s) at the Sport and Congress Center, Schwerin, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany.

This is slightly more than the 262 lbs. that Thompson weighed in at for his first fight against David Price last February. The difference here is Thompson looks a lot more solid than he did for that fight, and his weight looks like mostly muscle this time.

For his part, Pulev weighed in at 252.9 lbs. This is slightly more than what Pulev normally weighs for his fights.
