Cintron to fight Clottey or Foreman-Wolak winner next

By Jason Kim Former IBF welterweight champion Kermit Cintron (32-3-1, 28 KO’s) will be facing either former IBF welterweight title holder Joshua Clottey or the Yuri Foreman vs. Pawel Wolak winner in his next fight. Cintron, 31, hasn’t fought since way back in May of last year when he dove out of the ring in his loss to Paul Williams after tripping on his leg.

Cintron returns to action in May, wants to fight for vacant WBC title

By Jim Dower: Former IBF welterweight champion Kermit Cintron (32-3-1, 28 KO’s) reportedly will be returning to the ring in May, and hopes to fight for the vacant World Boxing Council junior middleweight title that was recently vacated by Manny Pacquiao. One of the contenders for the vacant WBC title will tentatively be #1 ranked WBC contender Saul Alvarez. The WBC board will vote for the other challenger. However, Cintron, who’s ranked only #9 by the WBC, is likely not going to be the one that gets the opportunity.

By Jim Dower: According to Steve Kim at maxboxing, former IBF welterweight champion Kermit Cintron (32-3-1, 28 KO’s) will be co-promoted by Top Rank. This is really good news for fans of Cintron, because once he signs with Top Rank, Cintron could find himself in fights with guys like WBA junior middleweight champion Miguel Cotto or Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. Cintron’s career is at a standstill right now following his 4th round technical decision loss last year in May against Paul Williams.

The only problem is Berto is totally uninterested in taking the dangerous fight and is instead looking to take on 36-year-old Randall Bailey next. Cintron, 31, is looking to get back in the ring after having been out of action since his 4th round technical decision loss to Paul Williams in May 2010. Berto, with unbeaten record, would be perfect for Cintron to get back winning and opening the eyes of doubtful fans.

However, Cintron thinks that Berto is purposely being kept away from him and is being matched instead against light welterweights at 140 pounds to keep him winning.

The bout will be taking place at Madison Square Garden, in New York. The word is that the 24-year-old Chavez Jr. won’t be traveling to the Philippines to spar with Manny Pacquiao and help get him ready for his next fight with Antonio Margarito on November 13th.

Cintron, 30, had the air knocked out of him after hitting the table. Cintron wasn’t hit with a punch, but rather he tripped over the leg of Williams and then fell out of the ring. Williams had fallen on the canvas himself.
