Cintron to fight Clottey or Foreman-Wolak winner next

By Jason Kim Former IBF welterweight champion Kermit Cintron (32-3-1, 28 KO’s) will be facing either former IBF welterweight title holder Joshua Clottey or the Yuri Foreman vs. Pawel Wolak winner in his next fight. Cintron, 31, hasn’t fought since way back in May of last year when he dove out of the ring in his loss to Paul Williams after tripping on his leg.

Cintron was injured during the fall, although not seriously. He’s been out of action since then trying to get an interesting fight. Unfortunately, Cintron has wasted all this time for nothing because he should have settled for a lesser fighter if no quality fighters could be found.

Cintron is ranked #4 WBO, #8 IBF and #9 WBC in the junior middleweight division. The only ranking that really is appealing for Cintron is the WBC, because he hopes to get a shot against the winner of the March 5th fight because Saul Alvarez and Matthew Hatton. That’s a big ask, however, because neither of those guys are likely going to be looking to take on a big puncher like Cintron in their next fights. Cintron hits too hard and is capable of boxing as well. Cintron is perhaps going to have to settle for someone at a lower level unless he can lure someone like Alfredo Angulo in the ring again.

Clottey would be a great fight for Cintron, because he does little other than fight hard for a handful of rounds and generally falls into a sparring partner role by the midpoint of his fights. He would be the perfect opponent for Cintron to get an impressive lopsided 12 round decision against. That is the fight that Cintron should be shooting for. Foreman, who will likely beat Wolak on March 12th, is too slick for Cintron and would make him look bad. I would steer clear of him altogether because Foreman not only makes his opponents look bad, but he often ends up head butting them accidentally. It could be a bloody and frustrating fight for Cintron if he didn’t stay clear of Foreman on the inside.
