By Eric Thomas: Number #1 ranked WBC middleweight contender Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (42-0-1, 30 KO’s) will be facing undefeated WBC middleweight champion Sebastian Zbik (30-0, 10 KO’s) on June 4th without a tune-up bout to get ready for the fight. Chavez Jr., the son of former boxing world champion Julio Cesar Chavez, was supposed to be taking a tune-up fight against David Medina. It looks like they decided that fight was either too risky or wouldn’t given Chavez Jr. enough time to get ready for the title shot against Zbik.

By Jim Dower: Number #1 ranked WBC middleweight contender Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (42-0-1, 30 KO’s) will be taking a 10 round tune-up bout against 32-year-old 5’7″ super middleweight David Medina (22-2, 10 kO’s) on March 19th at a still to be determined venue in Mexico. Chavez, 25, has been given a title shot against WBC middleweight champion Sebastian Zbik on June 4th at the MGM Grand, in Las Vegas, Nevada.
HBO to buy Chavez Jr. vs. Zbik for June 4th
By Dan Ambrose: HBO is interested in buying the June 4th proposed fight between Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (42-0-1, 30 KO’s) and WBC middleweight champion Sebastian Zbik (30-0, 10 KO’s), according to Dan Rafael of ESPN.
Arum says Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. and Saul Alvarez will never fight, because “Julio is too big”
By Chris Williams: Top Rank promoter Bob Arum said that his unbeaten fighter WBC Silver middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (42-0-1, 30 KO’s) and undefeated WBC Silver junior middleweight champion Saul Alvarez (35-0-1, 26 KO’s) will never fight because Chavez Jr. is “too big” for Alvarez to fight. This seems kind of silly given that the 6-foot Chavez Jr. just went life and death with the light hitting 5’9″ Billy Lyell last weekend.
If Chavez Jr. beats Zbik, he could face Sergio Martinez, says Arum
By Dan Ambrose: Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (42-0-1, 30 Ko’s) will be facing WBC middleweight champion Sebastian Zbik (30-0, 10 KO’s) in May. If Chavez defeats Zbik, which is likely because is a very average fighter that the WBC bestowed on him their title without him having to fight for it, then Chavez Jr. could be facing Sergio Martinez after that, says his promoter Bob Arum.
Chavez Jr. wants to fight De La Hoya after reading his twitter comments – Boxing News
By Dan Ambrose: #1 ranked WBC middleweight contender and current WBC Silver middleweight title holder Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (42-0-1, 30 KO’s) wants to face 38-year-old Oscar De La Hoya (39-6, 30 KO’s) next after reading De La Hoya’s comments he made about Chavez in his twitter account, according to fightnews.com. De La Hoya happened to have seen the 24-year-old Chavez’s recent fight against Billy Lyell, and like a lot of boxing fans, couldn’t help noticing how weak and poor Chavez Jr. looked in that fight.
Chavez Jr. looks fat, slow and weak but fight with Lyell does high ratings on Fox
By Dan Ambrose: Despite looking flabby, slow, weak and entirely mediocre in beating a 2nd tier junior middleweight who much smaller than him, WBC Silver middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (42-0-1, 30 KO’s) brought in high ratings for his fight last weekend against the much smaller Billy Lyell (22-9, 4 KO’s) on Fox Deportes. Indeed, Chavez’s fight brought in nearly 400,000 viewers, which as it turned out was the highest in the history for the network.
Arum says Chavez Jr. vs. Zbik will be in either Mexico or the Middle East
By Eric Thomas: Unbeaten middleweight contender Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (42-0-1, 30 KO’s) could be one of the lucky beneficiaries of having his next fight in May against WBC middleweight champion Sebastian Zbik (30-0, 10 KO’s) shown on CBS. Bob Arum, the promoter for Chavez Jr., recently signed a deal with CBS/Showtime to put the May 7th bout between Manny Pacquiao vs. Shane Mosley on CBS/Showtime. There is now talk of Arum putting the Chavez-Zbik fight on CBS as well.
Did Roach fail Chavez Jr. in his last fight with Lyell?
By Dan Ambrose: If you look at the condition that unbeaten middleweight contender Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (42-0-1, 30 KO’s) was in for his last fight this past weekend against journeyman Billy Lyells (22-9, 4 KO’s), it’s hard to miss the fact that Chavez Jr. looked kind of flabby and out of shape compared to his form a year ago in his impressive win over John Duddy in June 2010. Chavez Jr., the WBC Silver middleweight champion, reportedly came in four pounds over the 160 pound weight limit for his fight against the smallish Lyell.
De La Hoya: Chavez Jr. “Doesn’t have it, no pop on his punches”
By Dan Ambrose: It seems like I’m not the only one that wasn’t impressed with unbeaten Julio Cesar Chavez Jr’s 10 round decision win over Billy Lyell (22-9, 4 KO’s) last weekend. Oscar De La Hoya wasn’t exactly bowled over by Chavez’s win as well, saying this in his twitter account: “I was watching Chavez Jr. last night and I’m sorry, but he just doesn’t have it. There’s no pop on his punches, but wish him the best.” I agree with De La Hoya. Chavez Jr. looked slow and sluggish in the Lyell fight, lacking power and hand speed.
