Roach looked disappointed in Chavez’s performance against Lyell

Julio Cesar Chavez junior vs. Billy Lyell: Chavez fails to impress
By Francisco Hernandez: Fighting in his home town of Culiacan, Sinaloa, Julio Cesar Chavez failed to impress his hometown fans which booed him after he was awarded a decision in his fight against Billy Lyell in the Banorte Stadium last night, January 29th, 2011. Chavez Jr. looks slow, fat and weak in beating Lyell
By Chris Williams: If unbeaten middleweight contender Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (42-0-1, 30 KO’s) is supposed to be a future champion, according to his trainer Freddie Roach, he hardly showed that he had much ability in beating 2nd tier journeyman Billy Lyell (22-9, 4 KO’s) last night, winning by an unimpressive 10 round unanimous decision at the Estadio Banorte, in Culiacan, Sinaloa, Mexico. There’s no doubt that the 24-year-old Chavez Jr. won the fight, because he threw far more punches, landed more and was the much bigger guy compared to Lyell. Chavez Jr. looked positively huge compared to the 5’9″ Lyell, who was brought in from the junior middleweight ranks to take the fight.
Chavez decisions Lyell, will face Zbik next
By Michael Lieberman: Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (42-0-1, 30 KO’s) looked positively huge tonight compared to his smaller opponent junior middleweight journeyman fighter Billy Lyell (22-9, 4 KO’s), beating him by an 10 round unanimous decision at the Estadio Banorte, in Culiacan, Snialoa, Mexico. Lyell took a lot of punishment but refused to quit or get knocked off his feet in the one-sided fight. But what was so shocking about the fight was how much bigger Chavez Jr. looked compared to Lyell.
Chavez Jr. will beat Lyell tonight, but who cares? Why doesn’t he fight someone his own size?
By Dan Ambrose: Unbeaten middleweight contender Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (41-0-1, 30 Ko’s) faces the much smaller junior middleweight Billy Lyell (22-8, 4 KO’s) tonight in a 12 round title defense for Chavez Jr. for his WBC Silver middleweight title at the Estadio Banorte, in Culiacan, Sinaloa, Mexico. Chavez Jr. will fighting a weak puncher in Lyell, and you have to believe that move was by design. Chavez Jr. will not only be much bigger than Lyell at 6’0″ compared to 5’9″, but he’ll also be the much bigger puncher.
Sinaloa: New seedbed of Mexican Boxing
By Francisco Hernandez: For a long time Mexico City was the seedbed of great boxers for the Mexican nation. A neighborhood like Tepito (Aztec word meaning small temple), produced more world class fighters and champions than most nations will ever dream of having. There was a host of great trainers capable of teaching the art of boxing, old timers who are now in Heaven.

Roach wants Chavez Jr. to fight Sergio Martinez in 2011, thinks he can beat him
By Dan Ambrose: Trainer Freddie Roach is under the impression that his fighter Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (41-0-1, 30 KO’s) can beat WBC emeritus middleweight champion Sergio Martinez (46-2-2, 25 KO’s). Roach is interested in putting Chavez Jr. in with Martinez later in 2011, at least that’s what Roach is saying now. It’s hard to believe that Roach is serious about wanting to match Chavez Jr. against Martinez, because Chavez Jr. looks so flawed, average and vulnerable.
