By Jason Kim: Unbeaten Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (41-0-1, 30 KO’s) is taking the backdoor into the WBC title by taking on interim World Boxing Council middleweight champion Sebastian Zbik (30-0, 10 KO’s) for a bout that will reportedly be taking place in May after Chavez Jr. gets by his scheduled 10 round bout on January 29th against former fringe contender Billy Lyell (22-8, 4 KO’s) at the Estadio Banorte, Culiacan, Mexico.

By Jason Kim: Unbeaten middleweight contender Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (41-0-1, 30 KO’s) will be returning to the ring on January 29th against junior middleweight Billy Lyell (22-8, 4 KO’s) in a 10 round bout at the Estadio Banorte, in Culiacan, Mexico. Chavez, 24, is hoping to get a title shot in 2011, either against WBC middleweight champion Sergio Martinez or WBC middleweight interim champ Sebastian Zbik (30-0, 10 KO’s). It’s likely that Chavez will be kept away from Martinez, who is many levels above Chavez Jr. in talent at this point.

If the 24-year-old Chavez Jr. beats Lyell, which is pretty likely given that Lyell is much smaller than Chavez because he fights at junior middleweight and has no power, Chavez will then be fighting interim World Boxing Council (WBC) middleweight champion Sebastian Zbik on March 26th.

Chavez, who only fought once in 2010, is looking for a fight in the early part of 2011. He pulled out of a bout in December against Pawel Wolak complaining of the flu. This wasn’t the first time that Chavez had become ill before a fight.

When Chavez Junior fought Troy Rowland in 2009 he claims that he got sick before the fight, he started getting dizzy during training and he was hospitalized for 12 hours. He was given fluids in the form of glucose and vitamins. Chavez Jr then reportedly used an illegal diuretic drug to make weight. Chavez Jr. claims that it was to lose the fluids that were given to him in the hospital. Chavez went on to fight Troy Rowland, but Junior fought like a drained fighter. He admits that he felt weak in that fight. Also in 2009 Chavez Jr. canceled his fight with Jason LeHoullier after an injury.

By Dan Ambrose: For boxing fans hoping to see unbeaten middleweight contender Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (41-0-1, 30 KO’s) fight Pawel Wolak (27-1, 17 KO”s) this Saturday night, they got the bad news today that Chavez Jr. is sick with with the flu and won’t be available to fight on the card. According to Dan Rafael of ESPN, Chavez Jr. had a temperature of 103 F this morning and he won’t be able to make the “In Harms Way” fight this Saturday night at the Honda Center, in Anaheim, California.

By Jason Kim: The December 4th clash between top World Boxing Council (WBC) middleweight contender Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (41-0-1, 30 KO’s) and junior middleweight Pawel Wolak (27-1, 17 KO’s) is back on, according to Fightnews.com. The fight will be taking place at the Honda Center, in Anaheim, California. Earlier tonight, it was reported that Chavez couldn’t make the fight due to him contracting the flu. However, Fightnews says that they were contacted by Chavez’s Top Rank promoters and they said the fight is still on.

Chavez Jr. apparently has the flu and it’s gotten in the way of his ability to train for the fight. The card has been plagued by problems, Chavez Jr. was supposed to fight Alfonso Gomez, but he hurt his elbow during training and had to pull out of the fight.

Chavez’s previously scheduled opponent welterweight Alfonso Gomez suffered a tear in a ligament in his left elbow while training. Instead of the welterweight Gomez being replaced by middleweight, since this is after all a middleweight bout, the small 5’8″ junior middleweight contender Wolak was dug up to replace Top Rank fighter Gomez.
