By Jason Kim: The December 4th clash between top World Boxing Council (WBC) middleweight contender Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (41-0-1, 30 KO’s) and junior middleweight Pawel Wolak (27-1, 17 KO’s) is back on, according to Fightnews.com. The fight will be taking place at the Honda Center, in Anaheim, California. Earlier tonight, it was reported that Chavez couldn’t make the fight due to him contracting the flu. However, Fightnews says that they were contacted by Chavez’s Top Rank promoters and they said the fight is still on.

The flu illness will give Chavez and excuse should he get beaten in this fight. Wolak is a serious junior middleweight contender, and may be good enough to beat Chavez unless he’s 100%. Even if he’s at top form, Chavez is still vulnerable to getting beaten. He went life and death with 2nd tier fighter Matt Vanda in 2008, winning a 10 round split decision. And in Chavez’s last fight in June, he was staggered by fringe middleweight contender John Duddy at one point in the fight. Many people see Duddy as a B level fighter at best.

It’s not a good sign that Chavez is getting staggered by fighters like Duddy, especially when Chavez is interested in fighting guys like Manny Pacquiao, Sergio Martinez and Miguel Cotto. Wolak could mess up Chavez’s plans by beating him next month before he takes on – and likely loses badly – to one of those fighters.

Besides Chavez Jr, the December 4th card has Nonito Donaire facing the struggling Wladimir Sidorenko, and Humberto Soto vs. Urbano Antillon. Those are good fights, but without the Chavez-Wolak fight on the card, it will be hard to explain the steep $44.95 asking price for this card on pay per view. Even with the Chavez vs. Wolak fight, it’s kind of hard to fathom that kind of price for it.
