By Dan Ambrose: For boxing fans hoping to see unbeaten middleweight contender Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (41-0-1, 30 KO’s) fight Pawel Wolak (27-1, 17 KO”s) this Saturday night, they got the bad news today that Chavez Jr. is sick with with the flu and won’t be available to fight on the card. According to Dan Rafael of ESPN, Chavez Jr. had a temperature of 103 F this morning and he won’t be able to make the “In Harms Way” fight this Saturday night at the Honda Center, in Anaheim, California.

The illness has interrupted Chavez’s training for the fight, and it would be asking a lot for him to go into the fight anyway not feeling well. Some fighters could probably do it, but Chavez Jr. isn’t someone that can afford to fight a good fighter at nothing less than his best and still count on winning. Chavez was staggered in his last fight against the weak punching fringe contender John Duddy. Although Chavez won the fight by a 12 round decision, his defense was poor and it wasn’t a good sign that the light hitting Duddy was able to stagger him.

Without Chavez on Saturday’s card, the Nonito Donaire vs. Wladimir Sidorenko fight will be pushed to the main event. Also on the card will be Humberto Soto vs. Urbano Antillon. The rest of the undercard is filled with obscure prospects that even hardcore boxing fans would be a little clueless about. It’s unknown if the fight will sell for less now that Chavez isn’t fighting. The going price for the fight card was $44 and that might be asking a lot of fans to pay out just to see Donaire-Sidorenko and Soto-Antillon. The Donaire fight appears to be a big mismatch, as Sidorenko has lost two out of his last three fights. The Soto-Antillon fight is the better fight, but is it worth $44? I don’t think so.
