By Jason Kim: Unbeaten #1 WBC middleweight contender Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (41-0-1, 30 KO’s) has reportedly pulled out of his scheduled December 4th bout against junior middleweight contender Pawel Wolak (27-1, 17 KO’s), according to fightnews.com. Chavez Jr. apparently has the flu and it’s gotten in the way of his ability to train for the fight. The card has been plagued by problems, Chavez Jr. was supposed to fight Alfonso Gomez, but he hurt his elbow during training and had to pull out of the fight.

Wolak, who like Chavez Jr. fights for Top Rank, was available to step in for Gomez to fight Chavez. Now, the illness for Chavez Jr. wipes this fight out and really hurts the pay-per-view card, which is supposed to go for $44. There’s still two decent fights on the card Nonito Donaire vs. Volodymyr Sydorenko and Humberto Soto vs. Urbano Antillon, but that might be asking a lot of fans to pay that kind of money for these two fights and an undercard of obscure fighters.

There’s talk of Chavez Jr. possibly fighting WBA junior middleweight champion Miguel Cotto next year. Chavez Jr. is also interested in fighting WBC middleweight champion Sergio Martinez. With Chavez’s number 1 ranked in the WBC, he’s certainly in the position to fight Martinez. However, it’s doubtful Arum will allow Chavez to be put in with Martinez, because Chavez Jr. will almost certainly be slaughtered by Martinez and he could end up badly hurt in the process of getting destroyed by the Argentinian fighter. Arum will likely keep Chavez Jr. far away from Martinez and continue to match him against either B level fighters. If he does match Chavez against anyone decent, it’s going to be Cotto, one of his Top Rank fighters.
