Pacquiao targets Marquez or Floyd Mayweather Jr.

pac111By Alon Calinao Dy: After winning the fight against WBO welterweight champion Timothy Bradley (31-1, 12 KO’s) in handing him his first career defeat last night, former 8 division world champion Manny Pacquiao (56-5-2, 38 KO’s) told the boxing media that he is willing to face anyone who is going after him. The MGM Grand was filled with fans and celebrities who watched the exciting in Las Vegas, Nevada.

This time around, all the three judges were in favour of Pacquiao and they had judged the rematch fairly. I think most of the fans, are happy with the final verdict, and even Tim Bradley himself, admitted that Pacquiao was the better fighter last night. It just says one thing that the integrity of boxing has finally returned after Pacquiao was arguably robbed in his fight against Bradley in 2012, despite his obvious dominance.

Marquez chooses Alvarado, avoids Pacquiao

marquez45By Alon Calinao Dy: Mexican Professional Boxer Juan Manuel Marquez chooses to fight a lesser threat opponent Mike Alvarado than his long-time rival Manny Pacquiao at The Forum in Inglewood, California on May 17, 2014.

Filipino boxing champ Pacquiao is looking for a fifth bout when Marquez has closed the door of opportunity to show to the world that it was not a stroke of luck when he defeated the Filipino congressman by knockout. The truth is, a fight between these veteran boxers would definitely cement their legacies in the sport of boxing.

However, what are the true reasons why Marquez is avoiding Pacquiao after he knocked him out? Is it because of money issues? Perhaps, that would be another reason why Marquez does not want to fight Pacquiao again.

Boxingnews24’s Top Ten Mexican greatest fighters

chavez2422442By Gerardo Granados: Mexico is a country with a huge boxing tradition, a nation in love with brave fighters and one that harbors a breed of the best boxing fans for their support but also one fan base that can be very demanding to their co-nationals. Most of the Mexican fighters will be known for their heart and macho attitude in and outside the ring. And, yes, most of them are brawlers and many lack great footwork and can’t be considered as slick boxing technicians but for sure they are some of the bravest and meanest sons of boxing.

There are no exceptions to the rule of the Mexican fighters fan friendly boxing style but there is a group who have excelled as prize fighters; the ones who can risk it all but also are really skilled.

Why not Provodnikov?

provodnikov5By Matt Wood: While we look forward to April 12 as the day that brings us closure on Manny Pacquiao, Tim Bradley, and the most controversial decision in recent memory, Top Rank has already put together the next challenge for whoever comes out on top between their two welterweight workhorses.

Juan Manuel Marquez and Mike Alvarado will be in the ring together on May 17 at a catchweight of 143 pounds with the victor facing the winner of Pacquioa-Bradley 2. Those of us familiar with Top Rank’s stable of fighters in the junior-welterweight and welterweight divisions might see this as a fairly logical development, but I have one question for which I can’t find an easy answer: why is Ruslan Provodnikov not in the mix?

Marquez looking forward to fighting Pacquiao-Bradley II winner

marquez4356By Chris Williams: 40-year-old Juan Manuel Marquez (55-7-1, 40 KO’s) has one thing left that he wants to accomplish before he retires and that’s to win a 5th division world title. For Marquez to do that, he’s going to need to face the winner of the April 12th fight between Manny Pacquiao and Tim Bradley.

Marquez already fought both guys, and he feels he was robbed in three of his fights against Pacquiao and in his fight against Bradley. Marquez said recently that he didn’t want to ever fight Pacquiao again after knocking him out cold in December of 2012 in their fourth fight. But Marquez’s desire to win a 5th division world title is more important than his resistance to fight Pacquiao a fifth time, so he’ll face him again if Pacquiao somehow gets past Bradley.

Marquez-Alvarado possible for Gamboa vs. Mikey card on May 17th

marquez62By Dan Ambrose: 40-year-old Juan Manuel Marquez (55-7-1, 40 KO’s) could be in the ring in what would amount to be a tune-up fight on May 17th against Mike Alvarado (34-2, 23 KO’s), according to Fightnews. The Marquez-Alvarado fight would potentially be on the Mikey Garcia vs. Yuriorkis Gamboa fight card, if that fight even takes place. It’s still up in the air whether that fight will happen, though, because Mikey doesn’t seem all that excited about fighting the tough Cuban.

Marquez fighting Alvarado will give some fans the belief that Marquez is ducking WBO light welterweight champion Ruslan Provodnikov, who badly wants to fight Marquez because it would give him his first well known opponent of his career.
