Alvarado must attack Marquez constantly to win, says Tim Bradley

alvarado23By Dan Ambrose: Former WBO welterweight champion Tim Bradley thinks that Mike Alvarado (34-2, 23 KO’s) must come directly at Juan Manuel Marquez (55-7-1, 40 KO’s) this Saturday and focus on throwing a lot of punches for him to have a chance at beating the 40-year-old fighter at the Forum in Inglewood, California.

Bradley doesn’t think Alvarado has the boxing skills to move around the ring the way he did in beating Marquez, so he must focus on doing what he does best by trying to outwork him. Marquez is a counter puncher who is capable of throwing little more than 40 punches per round under the best of circumstances, Bradley says. If Alvarado throws more shots each round, he has a better chance of winning.

Who is ducking Pacquiao: Marquez or Mayweather Jr?

pac7848By Alon Calinao Dy: In many contests, the ultimate winner is the one who fights anybody, and is not afraid to lose in a competitive fight. Not so for Marquez and Mayweather Jr. despite the fact that they have the defensive styles that would make the fight difficult for Pacquiao. I don’t know, but these boxers have big worries that they might not have enough strength and determination to beat the Filipino congressman.

They have displayed their vulnerabilities when Marquez did not win against Bradley and Mayweather was having a tough fight against the brawler Marcos Maidana, which brought panics to their fans in their respective countries.

Kellerman: Marquez could show his age against Alvarado

marquez#1By Dan Ambrose: HBO’s Max Kellerman is giving Mike Alvarado (34-2, 23 KO’s) a decent chance of pulling off an upset on Saturday night in his fight against Juan Manuel Marquez (55-7-1, 40 KO’s) at the Forum in Inglewood, California. Kellerman thinks that Alvarado’s size and youth could be a factor in him beating the 40-year-old Marquez.

Kellerman acknowledges that Alvarado was stopped in his last fight by slugger Ruslan Provodnikov last October, but he sees Provodnikov as being a much different fighter than Marquez. The things that Provodnikov was able to do to Alvarado are things that Marquez will have problems trying to duplicate because he’s a much different fighter.

Macao wants Pacquiao to fight there again, says Arum

pac94By Chris Williams: Top Rank promoter Bob Arum is already thinking about putting his Filipino star Manny Pacquiao (56-5-2, 38 KO’s) back in Macao, China despite the fact that his previous fight over there against Brandon Rios did poorly in terms of pay-per-view numbers last year.

The numbers were such a huge drop off from Pacquiao’s previous fight against Juan Manuel Marquez that Arum went ahead and brought Pacquiao back to the United States for an ill advised rematch against Tim Bradley last April. That fight also failed to bring in the big numbers that Pacquiao was once accustomed to, so now Arum is looking to bring him back to Macao.

“Macao wants Manny to fight there [again].” Arum said.

Marquez faces Alvarado on Saturday to set up 5th fight with Pacquiao

marquez03By Dan Ambrose: Juan Manuel Marquez (55-7-1, 40 KO’s) will have a lot on the line this Saturday night against Mike Alvarado (34-2, 23 KO’s) at the Forum in Inglewood, California. Not only will the 40-year-old Marquez have a big payday fight against Manny Pacquiao on the line, but you can pretty much say that Marquez’s career will be on the line.

A loss to Alvarado will effectively signal an end to Marquez’s long 21-year pro career. Marquez can continue fighting, but he’ll be playing out his string and won’t have anywhere to go. I suppose we could still see Bob Arum of Top Rank draft Marquez out for a fifth fight against Pacquiao even with him coming off of a loss, but who will want to see that fight? Arum would be kidding himself to try and sell that fight to the boxing public, but I wouldn’t be surprised in the least if that’s what ends up happening.

Arum wants to stage Pacquiao-Marquez 5 in Macau, China

pac11111By Chris Williams: Top Rank promoter Bob Arum doesn’t want to stage a potential fifth fight between Manny Pacquiao (56-5-2, 38 KO’s) and Juan Manuel Marquez (55-7-1, 40 KO’s) in the United States. Instead, Arum wants to take the two fighters and bring them over to Macao, China, where they can dodge the taxes that they would be hit with for the loot they would make if the fight were to take place in America.

It’s no secret that Arum would like to open up China’s huge population of 1.4 billion people to PPV fights. By putting the Pacquiao-Marquez fight in China, and then getting the Chinese fans hooked on seeing Pacquiao fight, Arum can then possibly start charging the Chinese boxing fans for future fights.

Juan Manuel Marquez vs. Mike Alvarado this Saturday, 5/17, in Inglewood, California

clip_image002By Dan Ambrose: 40-year-old Juan Manuel Marquez (55-7-1, 40 KO’s) will have his career on the line next Saturday night when he faces former WBO 140 pound champion Mike Alvarado (34-2, 23 KO’s) in a fight at the Forum in Inglewood, California. Marquez wants another shot at the WBO welterweight title, so if he beats Alvarado, he’ll very likely be fighting WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao later on this year in what would be a fifth fight between them.

At this point of Pacquiao’s career, Marquez is the only guy that brings in a lot of pay-per-view buys, and that’s why their promoter Bob Arum keeps repeatedly matching them against each other. Alvarado may prove to be a tough obstacle for Marquez to get passed, because he’s bigger, stronger and younger than Marquez.

Juan Manuel Marquez vs. Mike Alvarado: Fight of the year potential?

marquez5By Gerardo Granados: Next May 17 at the Forum Inglewood, California, U.S.A; the former multiple division champion veteran Juan Manuel Marquez (W55-L7-D1) returns to the ring against top contender Mike Alvarado (W34-L2-D0). In his last two fights “Mile high” Alvarado got to be considered for the fight of the year award, first against Brandon Rios wining a thrilling rematch and then lost a competitive battle against the current WBO light welterweight champion Ruslan Provodnikov. On the other corner “Dinamita” Marquez lost a close boxing match against Tim Bradley.

Both Rios and Provodnikov are pressure fighters and Alvarado is more of a boxer puncher and counter puncher than be considered as a brawler. Marquez is a great counter puncher also a boxer puncher but he can’t be considered to be as pressure fighter, so will this mix allow us to see a war? I believe it will.

Roach badly wants Pacquiao-Marquez 5, thinks it’ll break 1 million PPV buys

roach212By Chris Williams: Trainer Freddie Roach badly wants to have his fighter WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao (56-5-2, 38 KO’s) get a 5th fight against the soon to 41-year-old Juan Manuel Marquez (55-7-1, 40 KO’s), because Roach thinks Marquez has aged and deteriorated somewhat since knocking his fighter Pacquiao out cold two years ago in 2012. Roach believes that Pacquiao can beat Marquez now, and he thinks the fight will bring in over 1 million pay-per-view buys on HBO as well.

Pacquiao hasn’t brought in over 1 million PPV buys since 2011. Boxing fans don’t know what the PPV numbers were for Pacquiao’s April 12th rematch against WBO welterweight champion Tim Bradley, because for some reason they still haven’t been released despite the fact that it’s been almost a month since the Pacquiao-Bradley 2 fight took place.

Marquez wants Pacquiao to fight Mayweather; he’s not interested in 5th fight with him

pac89By Chris Williams: Juan Manuel Marquez (55-7-1, 40 KO’s) says he has zero interested in fighting Manny Pacquiao (56-5-2, 38 KO’s) for a 5th time, as what Top Rank promoter Bob Arum is hoping for. Instead of Marquez fighting Pacquiao, he wants him to face Floyd Mayweather Jr. in order to give boxing fans the fight that they really want to see. Marquez feels that he’s had enough fights against Pacquiao, and he doesn’t want to waste time fighting him a fifth time.

Marquez is fighting Mike Alvarado (34-2, 23 KO’s) next month on May 17th in a WBO welterweight title eliminator bout at the Forum, in Inglewood, California, USA. The winner of that fight is supposed to fight for the WBO title against Pacquiao now that he’s beaten Tim Bradley.
