In an indication of over reach on his part, Felix Trinidad (42-2, 35 KOs) is already looking past this Saturday’s bout with Roy Jones Jr. at Madison Square Garden, in New York City, saying that he wants to fight Joe Calzaghe, the World Boxing Organization super middleweight champion, next. First of all, not many people are giving Trinidad, 34, much of a shot at beating Jones, 39, as Trinidad hasn’t fought in two and a half years, even then he lost a lopsided 12-round unanimous decision to Winky Wright in May 2005.

Warren had this to say to the Guardian, “Nothing can ever be definite until the contracts are signed,” said Warren, “but the paperwork is with the lawyers, and it looks as though it will be done. It is a huge fight for both men, and it would give Joe the big American date that he has been looking for.”
Roy Jones Jr. Wants Match With Calzaghe
On last nights’ ESPN telecast, former light heavyweight champion Roy Jones Jr. (51-4, 38 KOs) said that he wants to fight super middleweight champion Joe Calzaghe, after he, Jones, stops Felix Trinidad (42-2, 35 KOs) in the fourth round in their scheduled 12-round bout on January 19th at New York’s Madison Square Garden. Jones, 38, appears to be completely overlooking the 35 year-old Trinidad, treating him as if victory is a forgone conclusion. Jones, it seems, has been looking too closely at Trinidad’s last fight in which he lost a lopsided decision to Winky Wright in May 2005, afterwards leading to another retirement by Trinidad.
Will Hopkins Be Calzaghe’s Last Fight?
According to the latest boxing news, undefeated WBO/WBC/WBA super middleweight champion Joe Calzaghe could be fighting for the last time when he takes on Bernard Hopkins in April 2008. Apparently, Calzaghe doesn’t see many other big names fighters to fight in the near future, besides the soon to be 43 year-old Hopkins, and figures that if he can’t land a big mega fight, he would be better off retiring from boxing.
Hopkins To Face Calzaghe In April?

Not exactly inspiring for the average fan, as they’ll likely be expected to fork over $50 to watch the matchup on PPV.
Is Calzaghe afraid of Hopkins?
Super middleweight champion Joe Calzaghe has been busily attempting to arrange a potential mega-fight with light heavyweight Bernard Hopkins, but up to this point he’s had little luck for his efforts. The two met recently in a heated exchanged in which Hopkins said “I would never let a white boy beat me.” During that discussion, however, Calzaghe, 35, lucked afraid of Hopkins, as if he were afraid that he would reach out and tag him with a big shot. I know fear when I see it, and Calzaghe looked almost petrified of Hopkins as he walked up on Calzaghe and sternly told him that he would never lose to a white boy.
Calzaghe Not Going To Wait For Hopkins, Woods Possibly Next Opponent
In the latest boxing news, undefeated super middleweight champion Joe Calzaghe has recently stated that he doesn’t think it’s possible to set up a bout with American Bernard Hopkins in the near future, saying that he’s gone nowhere in negotiations with the 42 year-old fighter, whom has appeared reluctant to get in the ring with the Welshman. Hopkins made an offer to Calzaghe but apparently it was well below the asking price that Calzaghe would expect to get for a clash of this magnitude.
Calzaghe vs. Woods?
According to International Boxing Federation light heavyweight champion Clintron Woods, He has begun talks with super middleweight champion Joe Calzaghe, perhaps for a bout in March, if everything goes as planned. In an interview with the BBC, Woods said “There’s been talks and money’s been offered. I could be ready in March or April. I’d be a massive underdog, but I’d fancy my chances against him. And for the British public, it’s far bigger than Calzaghe against Bernard Hopkins.” However, nothing has been confirmed by Calzaghe’s promoter Frank Warren, who feels that it’s too early after Calzaghe’s bout with Mikkel Kessler to make a decision as to future opponents.
Roy Jones Jr: “ll fight Calzaghe anywhere He Wants”
In somewhat of a shocking display of bravado, former eight -time world champion Roy Jones Jr. called out super middleweight champion Joe Calzaghe at a recent press conference, saying “I can fight at practically any weight right now. “I can drop down to 168 pounds and take on Joe Calzaghe. “‘ll fight him anywhere” he wants. Jones Jr is back and ready to fight.” Perhaps Jones, 38, has taken notice of Calzaghe’s frustration with trying to arrange a bout with light heavyweight Bernard Hopkins, and hopes to make easier for Calzaghe by being much more pliable.
