Berto to be trained by Virgil Hunter

berto563By Allan Fox: Former IBF/WBC welterweight champion Andre Berto (28-2, 22 KO’s) is now being trained by Virgil Hunter for Berto’s fight against Jesus Soto Karass (27-8-3, 17 KO’s) next month on July 27th at the AT&T Center in San Antonio, Texas.

Berto is hoping that Hunter can get his career back on the tracks after a 12 round unanimous decision loss to Robert “The Ghost’ Guerrero last November.

The defeat was Berto’s second loss in his last three fights and a clear sign that there are some serious problems with Berto’s game.

Berto said to ESPN, “I know I have all the talent in the world. Now it’s time to fine-tune the skill. Virg is someone I’ve known since I was a kid…we’re testing things out with this fight and seeing where things go.”

Berto: I could be facing Mayweather next year

berto233By Dan Ambrose: With two losses in his last three fights, former IBF/WBC welterweight champion Andre Berto’s career as a upper level fighter is on the ropes as he approaches his July 27th fight against Jesus Soto Karass (27-8-3, 17 KO’s) at the AT&T Center, in San Antonio, Texas, USA.

Despite how bleak things are looking for the 29-year-old Berto, he thinks he has a good chance of getting a fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr. next year if he can somehow get past Soto Karass. However, it’s incredibly difficult to imagine Mayweather turning his sights towards Berto, even if he gets past Soto Karass in July.

Thurman-Chaves & Berto-Soto Karass on July 20th or 27th on Showtime

thurman432By Allan Fox: According to Dan Rafael, Golden Boy Promotions is putting together a big fight card on July 20th or July 27th on Showtime with #10 WBC welterweight Jesus Soto-Karass (27-8-3, 17 KO’s) facing former IBFC/WBC welterweight champion Andre Berto (28-2, 22 KO’s) and #1 WBO, #4 WBA, #13 IBF, Keith Thurman (20-0, 18 KO’s) battling Interim WBA World welterweight champion Diego Chaves (22-0, 18 KO’s) at a still to be determined venue.

This is a good card because we’ll find out a lot of things starting with whether Berto has anything left in the tank after having lost two out of his last three fights and looked poor in all three of them. Berto is coming off of a 12 round unanimous decision loss to Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero last November.

Soto-Karass had easier time with Aydin than Guerrero

aydin12By Allan Fox: After watching Jesus Soto-Karass (27-8-3, 17 KO’s) easily beat Selcuk Aydin (23-2, 17 KO’s) last Saturday night in a 12 round majority decision victory, suddenly Robert Guerrero’s 12 round unanimous decision victory over Aydin isn’t looking so special now.

In watching those two fights, it’s clear that Soto-Karass has a much easier time against Aydin compared to Guerrero. Forget about the fact that Guerrero beat Aydin by a 12 round unanimous decision compared to the 12 round majority decision victory that Soto-Karass earned against Aydin.

Aydin needs to dump Adam Booth

aydin2By Scott Gilfoid: Welterweight knockout artist Selcuk Aydin (23-2, 17 KO’s) looked worse than he ever has before in losing by a 10 round majority decision to the good but VERY beatable Jesus Soto-Karass (27-8-3, 17 KO’s) at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. Aydin looked completely lost with his new trainer Adam Booth.

Under Booth’s guidance, Aydin went from an exciting slugger to a cautious boxer/puncher, and he looked just awful in making that transformation. Aydin was much better before with his previous trainer, I think. I don’t know what Booth was trying to transform Aydin into, but sure didn’t work because he looked completely befuddled out there.

Soto-Karass defeats Aydin

soto-karassBy Jim Dower: Jesus Soto-Karass (27-8-3, 17 KO’s) showed his class tonight in beating the hard hitting Selcuk Aydin 23-2, 17 KO’s) by a 1- round majority decision at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. This was the first fight for Aydin with his new trainer Adam Booth and it really showed.

Aydin looked confused in trying to box the taller Soto-Karass from the outside instead of plodding forward and slugging it out with his old style of fighting. The judges scored the fight 97-93, 97-93 and 95-95. In hindsight, Aydin would have been much better off had he fought using his old style of fighting where he would slug it out.

Selcuk Aydin vs. Jesus Soto-Karass on Saturday, 1/26 in Las Vegas

aydin4521345By Jason Kim: #3 WBC Selcuk Aydin (23-1, 17 KO’s) will be trying to show improvement in his career this Saturday night against Jesus Soto-Karass (26-8-3, 17 KO’s) in a 10 round bout at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Aydin, 29, lost his last fight to Robert Guerrero last July in a 12 round unanimous decision loss and in doing so, Aydin lost his unbeaten record and his #1 ranking by the WBC in the welterweight division.

It was somewhat disappointing for Aydin because he had been passed over for ages by former WBC welterweight champion Andre Berto, and it seemed kind of sad to see Aydin beaten before getting a title shot. The only consolation was that his fight with Guerrero was for the interim WBC 147 pound title, but that’s a much different thing that fighting for a title.

Aydin vs. Soto-Karass, Matthysse vs. Dallas Jr. on 1/26

aydin4521345By Jason Kim: #3 WBC welterweight contender Selcuk Aydin (23-1, 17 KO’s) will be fighting for the first time with new trainer Adam Booth on January 26h against Jesus Soto-Karass (26-8-3, 17 KO’s0 at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Aydin, 29, lost his last fight to former three division world champion Robert Guerrero by a 12 round unanimous decision in July of last year. Although Aydin looked powerful with his shots, he looked incredibly raw for a fighter with six year of pro experience under his belt and he performed poorly other than when he was landing big power shots.
