Crawford needs to be like Golovkin to become a PPV star

crawford843

By Dan Ambrose: After last Saturday’s less than crowd-pleasing performance in beating Viktor Postol, WBC/WBO light welterweight champion Terence Crawford (29-0, 20 KOs) has a lot of question marks about him and whether he’s got the mindset to become the new face of boxing. That’s what Crawford wants, and that’s obviously what his promoters at Top Rank want to see him become.

The fastest way for Crawford to become a pay-per-view attraction is for him to start knocking out all of his opponents. It wasn’t promising to see Crawford taking it easy last Saturday night against Postol after knocking him down twice in round five. If that had been middleweight star Gennady Golovkin that had knocked Postol down twice in the 5th round, you can bet that he would have been looking to finish him off in the 6th.

Brook vs. Golovkin = David vs. Goliath?

Image: Brook vs. Golovkin = David vs. Goliath?

By Yannis Mihanos: It always feels great to watch encounters that bring in mind the mythical battle of David vs. Goliath, the tiny vs. the giant. IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook (36-0, 25 KO’s) is the rising star from England who dares to challenge the top gun of the middleweight division, one of the most feared fighters of our time: Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (35-0, 32 KO’s).

Golovkin and Brook will be fighting on September 10 at the O2 Arena in London, England. Their fight will be televised on HBO Championship Boxing in the States and on Sky Box Office pay-per-view in the UK.

Guerrero: Kell Brook is crazy to fight Golovkin

Image: Guerrero: Kell Brook is crazy to fight Golovkin

By Scott Gilfoid: Former two division world champion Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero thinks Kell “Special K” Brook (36-0, 25 KOs) is crazy to be moving up two weight divisions to take on unbeaten IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (35-0 32 KOs) on September 10 at the O2 Arena in London, England.

Guerrero thinks Brook should have at least fought a couple of tune-up fights at 160 beore taking on Golovkin, who he rates as the best fighter in the middleweight division today. Guerrero thinks that the 30-year-old Brook is taking a dangerous move by jumping straight into the middleweight division against Golovkin rather than easing his way in by facing a couple of guys to get acclimated to the weight. Guerrero sees this fight as one that could wind up with Brook getting hurt.

GGG’s promoter: Canelo has tough fight against Smith

canelo96

By Dan Ambrose: Gennady Golovkin’s trainer Tom Loeffler believes that Saul “Canelo” Alvarez has a tough fight on his hands in his title challenge against WBO junior middleweight champion Liam Smith (23-0-1, 13 KOs) on September 17 at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Loeffler isn’t saying that Canelo will lose to Smith, but he still sees this as a very, very tough fight for Canelo. The weight alone will be a battle for Canelo to prove that he can get down to 154 on fight night. Canelo hasn;t fought at junior middleweight for three years despite the fact that Golden Boy Promotions are saying that he’s a junior middleweight. It’s hard to buy into that argument when your fighter isn’t fighting in that weight class.

The fight is perceived by many boxing fans as an easy fight for the heavier, more powerful Canelo, who will be coming down in weight one pound from his normal weight at 155lbs. Losing an extra pound could be difficult for Canelo, because he’s already rehydrating into the 170s and some think the 180s. We’re talking about a fighter that will be losing 20 to 25 pounds of water weight to make weight for his match against Smith.

Golovkin-Brook: Boxing is all about the money

1-golovkin (6)

By Poerqe: Through the ages there have been a lot of boxers who have influenced boxers and boxing as a whole. But none have made such on impact as Floyd ‘money’ Mayweather (49-0, 26 KOs). It was always about the money, but never so much as during and post Mayweather. Mayweather has numerous times openly admitted that instead of trying to match himself against the very best and testing himself. He looks at what makes financially the most sense. This mantra seems to have been adopted by the other boxers who also look to maximize their purses and minimize the risk they take. And can we really blame them?

If we look at the September 10th Gennady Gennadyevich Golovkin (34-0, 31 KOs) vs. Kell Brook (36-0, 25 KOs) fight, you have to wonder How this fight is even allowed to take place? Well, there is only one reason. It makes sense financially and the risk for both fighters is pretty low. The money is obviously good, for GGG the fact he’ll lose is pretty none existing. Kell will lose but it probably won’t have effect on his career. People except him to lose (except for some delusional Brook fans). He’ll get exposure in the US and around the rest of the world. God knows he needs some.

Roach: Brook is too small for Golovkin

Image: Roach: Brook is too small for Golovkin

By Scott Gilfoid: Well, it seems that it doesn’t really matter that welterweight Kell Brook (36-0, 25 KOs) is reportedly weighing 178 pounds right now and is heavier than IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (35-0, 32 KOs). The general consensus is that Brook is just too little to be fighting Golovkin, and will be knocked out on September 10 when the two of them fight each other at the O2 Arena in London, England.

Trainer Freddie Roach also believes that the 30-year-old Brook is just too small to have a chance of beating Triple G. Roach sees the Golovkin vs. Brook fight as very similar to the Saul “Canelo” Alvarez vs. Amir Khan fight that took place last May. I bet that doesn’t make Brook feel too good in seeing himself being mentioned in the same light as welterweight Khan, because the hulking super middleweight-sized Canelo knocked him out in the 6th round.

Errol Spence beats Crawford, says GGG’s trainer

spence

By Dan Ambrose: IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin’s trainer Abel Sanchez says unbeaten welterweight contender Errol Spence Jr. (20-0, 17 KOs) beats WBC/WBO light welterweight champion Terence “Bud” Crawford (29-0, 20 KOs) in a couple more fights from now. Spence would be a nightmare for Crawford with his punching power and his body attacks.

Crawford was staggered badly by former featherweight champion Yuriorkis Gamboa in 2014, and that’s the only hard puncher that he’s fought during his career. Spence is a completely different animal. He’s bigger, stronger, and very good at cutting off the ring on guys that run from him.

Spence, 26, is younger than the 28-year-old Crawford and has a two inch reach advantage. Being a body puncher, Spence wouldn’t miss with his punches the way that Victor Postol did last Saturday night in his unification match against Crawford at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Bradley: Kell Brook has an chance against Golovkin

Image: Bradley: Kell Brook has an chance against Golovkin

By Dan Ambrose: Both Roy Jones Jr. and Tim Bradley both are on the same side in their belief that undefeated 30-year-old IBF welterweight champion Kell “Special K” Brook (36-0, 25 KOs) has a good chance of beating knockout artist IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (35-0, 32 KOs) on September 10 at the O2 Arena in London, England.

Bradley takes a rather simplistic outlook to the Golovkin-Brook fight by pointing out that Brook has two hands like GGG, and ties his shoes like him. In other words, Brook has a chance because he breathes oxygen, drinks water, has two eyes, a nose and ears. He exists on earth, so therefore he has a chance.

Paul Smith: Brook has a chance against Golovkin

smith761

By Scott Gilfoid: Former super middleweight world title challenger Paul Smith thinks that welterweight Kell Brook (36-0, 25 KOs) will be able to land some shots against IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (35-0, 32 KOs) in the first few rounds of their fight on September 10. However, Smith sees Golovkin catching up to Brook after three rounds and the fight could go downhill for the British fighter from that point on. Smith, 33, isn’t ruling out an upset in the fight. Smith does think Brook has a chance to beat Golovkin, but he sees it as a tough ask. Brook will need to move up two entire weight divisions to fight Golovkin.

Brook and his promoter Eddie Hearn have made a big deal about him being a junior middleweight in size, and possibly even as big as Golovkin on the night of their fight on September 10.

Gilberto Ramirez: Brook has no chance against Golovkin

ramirez56655

By Dan Ambrose: WBO super middleweight champion Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez says he doesn’t like the September 10 fight between unbeaten IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (35-0, 32 KOs) and unbeaten welterweight Kell “Special K” Brook (36-0, 25 KOs), because he doesn’t think Brook has any chance of winning the fight. Ramirez thinks Brook will try moving around the ring for two or three rounds, but the match will end as soon as Triple G lands one of his big shots.

“For me, I don’t like the fight, but if you want to fight with me, then let’s do it,” said Ramirez to fighthub.com. “No, I don’t give him [Brook] a chance. I think he’s going to move around for two or three rounds, but when Gennady throws a good punch, he’s going to knock him out. One punch,” said Ramirez.
