Is Floyd Mayweather doing Boxing a favor?

Image: Is Floyd Mayweather doing Boxing a favor?By Ryan Dunn: I just read a great article by Lem Satterfield regarding the USADA testing protocols being employed in the Floyd Mayweather vs. Shane Mosley, “Who R U Picking?” Superfight coming up on May 1. I have to say, the more I read about the protocol and how it applies to the world of boxing, the more enamored I become with it.

I like the idea of fighters providing whereabout information up front, so that they may be found any time, any where, to be tested for any performance enhancing drugs by the doctors for the USADA. I also like the idea that there are “real” penalties; like a possible 2-year suspension and disqualification for the bout itself.

Mayweather-Pacquiao could take place in New York

Image: Mayweather-Pacquiao could take place in New YorkBy Alexander Fugate: The world wants to see a Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Manny Pacquiao fight. As everyone who hasn’t been living in a cave knows by now, negotiations for this super fight fell apart over stringent drug testing that Mayweather wanted and Pacquiao refused. Since the Mayweather negotiations, Pacquiao, his trainer Freddie Roach, and his promoter Bob Arum have all repeatedly said they will not agree to the Olympic style drug testing that Mayweather wants all of his future opponents to undergo- UNLESS it is ordered so by the state athletic commission, of the state they would fight in.

Pacquiao is “open to fighting” Mayweather – but he has to make the first move

Image: Pacquiao is “open to fighting” Mayweather - but he has to make the first moveBy Chris Williams: World Boxing Organization welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao said he’s open to fighting Floyd Mayweather Jr. in the near future, saying in an article at USA Today “I am open to him fighting me anytime he wants to.” That sounds really nice, but what Pacquiao isn’t saying is whether he’ll be agreeable to taking the random blood tests that Mayweather wants all of his opponents to take before he fights them.

Image: Mayweather Jr. tells Mosley “You’re going to have to earn my respect”By Esteban Garduno: Unbeaten Floyd Mayweather Jr. (40-0, 25 KO’s) had some stern words for Shane Mosley (46-5, 39 KO’s) in their sit down interview with HBO analyst Max Kellerman recently, saying “Come May 1st, he’s [Mosley] going to have to make me respect his skills.” Mosley and Mayweather will be fighting on May 1st at the MGM Grand, in Las Vegas, Nevada. This is a fight that could break the previous pay-per-view record set by Mayweather and Oscar De La Hoya in 2007 when their fight registered over 2 million PPV buys. Richard Schaefer, the CEO for Golden Boy Promotions, predicts that Mayweather-Mosley will bring in over 3 million PPV buys.

Does Pacquiao lack the ring expertise to beat Mayweather and Mosley?

Image: Does Pacquiao lack the ring expertise to beat Mayweather and Mosley?By Esteban Garduno: I have to admit that what I saw of Manny Pacquiao against Joshua Clottey didn’t give me a feeling that Pacquiao could beat or even compete with the likes of Shane Mosley and Floyd Mayweather Jr. Boxing is a science, a sport of the mind if you will. The fighters are ones that are experts at ring strategy and who know how to capitalize on their opponents mistakes. I see Mosley and Mayweather being the ultimate ideal at coming up with a strategy to beat their opponents and then following it to the letter. Sadly, I didn’t see that from Pacquiao in his fight with Clottey.

Who’s the Biggest Draw in Boxing Right Now?

Mayweather vs. Pacquiao PPV buys

Image: Who's the Biggest Draw in Boxing Right Now?By Ryan Dunn: There are really only a few top draws in the sport of boxing today. The Klitschko brothers can bring numbers in the heavies, Hopkins and Jones are in their twilight, but still might fool enough fans into buying that fight, and Haye seems to be on the rise. Pavlik had the chance to be one of “those guys” before B-Hop dismantled his Ohio roots.

The list goes on, but there are three fighters who stand head and shoulders above the pack in recent years, and one of them is retired. This isn’t the golden age of boxing anymore, true, but it’s still impressive that none of the three top draws are even heavyweights.

Here’s How Mayweather Can Beat Pacquiao by Decision

Image: Here's How Mayweather Can Beat Pacquiao by DecisionBy Ryan Dunn: In case you thought I was making a prediction with part one of this two-part piece, here is the other side of the equation. I know that fans on both side of the aisle are enthusiastic about the upcoming Mayweather vs. Mosley fight, and I am among them. This is a super fight that wasn’t supposed to happen, but come May 1st, Mayweather will have to fight one of the strongest, fastest, smartest opponents of his entire career. It should be as exciting a Mayweather fight as we’ve yet seen.

Image: Could Olympic Style Drug Testing Become the Norm?By Alexander Fugate: People from the Mayweather and Mosley camps met with Travis Tygart, of the USADA, on Thursday, to discuss the testing to be performed on both fighters for their clash on May 1st. Mayweather and Mosley will both undergo olympic-style testing, including random blood and urine tests before and after the fight. The testing will be overseen by the USADA. Here’s How Pacquiao Can Beat Mayweather by Decision

Image: Here's How Pacquiao Can Beat Mayweather by DecisionBy Ryan Dunn: If you look up the phrase “unanimous decision” in the dictionary, you might find a picture of Floyd Mayweather smiling back at you with that million dollar grin. But Manny Pacquiao has a relentless attack, unothodox punching power, and a solid chin. I believe those three qualities could spell complexity for Mayweather in the form of a loss by decision.

Clottey thinks Pacquiao would give Mayweather a lot of problems – News

Image: Clottey thinks Pacquiao would give Mayweather a lot of problems – NewsBy Esteban Garduno: For what it’s worth, Joshua Clottey believes that Manny Pacquiao would give unbeaten Floyd Mayweather Jr. a lot of problems if the two were eve to fight. In an article at the Philippine Star, Clottey says “To be frank with you, the fight [Mayweather vs. Pacquiao] will be very tough for Mayweather. Pacquiao is very fast and he keeps on throwing punches. Mayweather doesn’t throw too much, so Manny will give him problems, lot’s of problems.” That may might be, but Mayweather is a lot better at moving than Clottey proved to be last Saturday night.
