Hearn: Bellew will be winning a world title in 2013

Image: Hearn: Bellew will be winning a world title in 2013By Scott Gilfoid: Matchroom Sport promoter Eddie Hearn is talking about getting a world title shot for his fighter Tony Bellew (18-1, 12 KO’s) in 2013 after Bellew was able to defeat journeyman Edison Miranda (35-8, 30 KO’s) by a 9th round TKO last Saturday night in a less than impressive showing at the Alexandra Palace, Muswell Hill, London, United Kingdom.

Hearn said this after Bellew’s win over Miranda last Saturday night: “Edison Miranda is the kind of guy that can finish your career with one punch. Tony had to be smart, took his time. It was a great performance. We’re going to sit down now. I’d like Tony to come out on the undercard, the chief support of Froch bill on November 17th…This guy is a great character and has a great future. He still has had only 18, 19 fights now. So, he’s learning and learning. He’s going to be a massive star. We’re going to make him huge. He’s going to go on and win a world title next year.”

Bellew stops Miranda in 9th

By Scott Gilfoid: British light heavyweight champion Tony Bellew (18-1, 12 KO’s) had to really struggle to get a 9th round stoppage tonight against journeyman Edison Miranda (35-8, 30 KO’s) at the Alexandra Palace in London. The fight was pretty much even at the time Miranda suddenly quit after taking a knee. The fight was halted at 2:54 of the round. If Miranda was a little younger he likely would have won the fight, but he’s had too many wars.

Bellew: I was never given an offer to fight Cleverly

Image: Bellew: I was never given an offer to fight CleverlyBy William Mackay: Light heavyweight Tony Bellew (17-1, 11 KO’s) is saying that he was never given an offer to fight WBO light heavyweight champion Nathan Cleverly (24-0, 11 KO’s) despite the comments made by Cleverly’s promoter Frank Warren that Bellew had rejected the fight.

Bellew told Sportinglife.com “Despite what they’ve being saying, they never made me an offer to fight again. I physically went to Frank Warren’s office and begged for the opportunity and was told ‘no’. I’m maximum risk, zero gain.”

Bellew, 29, will be fighting former middleweight world title contender Edison Miranda (35-7, 30 KO’s) this Saturday night in a 12 round bout at the Alexandra Palace, Muswell Hill, London, United Kingdom.

Cleverly’s promoter Warren said to thesun.co.uk “Bellew rejected the offer of a rematch.”

Bellew to find out the hard way about Miranda’s power on Saturday night

Image: Bellew to find out the hard way about Miranda's power on Saturday nightBy Scott Gilfoid: A pair of 2nd tier light heavyweights will be going at it this Saturday night with knockout artist Edison Miranda (35-7, 30 KO’s) traveling to the UK to take on Tony Bellew (17-1, 11 KO’s) in a 12 round fight at the Alexandra Palace, Muswell Hill, London, United Kingdom.

There are no obscure trinket titles on the line for this fight which is nice, because it’s so tiresome to see strange titles thrown in for fights just for the heck of it as if to validate the fight.

This fight doesn’t need it. Miranda and Bellew are both at a crossroads where the loser of the fight will continue to fall backwards into the 2nd tier, while the winner could possibly claw his way to a bottom 15 ranking if they’re lucky.

Barry Hearn: I can’t wait to see Tony Bellew announce himself on the world scene by beating Edison Miranda

Image: Barry Hearn: I can’t wait to see Tony Bellew announce himself on the world scene by beating Edison MirandaBy Marcus Stewart: Barry Hearn, father of boxing promoter Eddie Hearn, said to Sky Sports News that he can’t wait for the upcoming fights that his son has put together and is confident that Tony Bellew will announce himself on the world stage in style by beating faded Columbian fighter Edison Miranda.

Tony Bellew is without a doubt a talent. He shows fantastic ring generalship, is a very fast puncher and is also a very heavy handed puncher as well. His punches could be mistaken for someone fighting at cruiserweight or even heavyweight. He’s an upcoming prospect and I’m sure that he will win a world title one day. His fight with Edison Miranda is a simple task for him, but he’s fighting what many regard as a big name, nevertheless it’d be good for Bellew to have Miranda on his record.

Miranda: I’m going to beat Bellew ugly, then I want Froch or Cleverly to take their titles

Image: Miranda: I'm going to beat Bellew ugly, then I want Froch or Cleverly to take their titlesBy Scott Gilfoid: Edison Miranda (35-7, 30 KO’s) is going to be looking to knock Tony Bellew (17-1, 11 KO’s) on Saturday night in front of all of Bellew’s British boxing fans at the Alexandra Palace, Muswell Hill, London, United Kingdom. Miranda, 31, is going to put some hard leather on the 29-year-old Bellew, and get him out of there so that Miranda doesn’t have to worry about possibly getting jobbed by the judges.

Miranda told EPSN “What I do to Bellew. It’s going to be ugly. I am not putting that decision in the hands of the judges. You can…keep the judges at home…Carl Froch would be No.1 on my radar…If Froch has other plans then Nathan Cleverly.”

Bellew will taste defeat against Miranda

Image: Bellew will taste defeat against MirandaBy Scott Gilfoid: I hope bottom dweller light heavyweight Tony Bellew (17-1, 11 KO’s) remembers how defeat tasted in his loss to WBO light heavyweight champion Nathan Cleverly last October, because I’m afraid Bellew is about to taste some more defeat next month on September 8th against Edison Miranda (35-7, 30 KO’s) at the Alexandra Palace, Muswell Hill, London, UK.
