Image: Bellew will taste defeat against MirandaBy Scott Gilfoid: I hope bottom dweller light heavyweight Tony Bellew (17-1, 11 KO’s) remembers how defeat tasted in his loss to WBO light heavyweight champion Nathan Cleverly last October, because I’m afraid Bellew is about to taste some more defeat next month on September 8th against Edison Miranda (35-7, 30 KO’s) at the Alexandra Palace, Muswell Hill, London, UK.

Miranda may not be the greatest fighter that ever breathed at light heavyweight, but he’s definitely a level above Bellew in talent and I see this going badly for the Brit. What’s especially bad about the fight is that Bellew will be fighting in front of his own fans in London, so when things go badly for him in this fight, the Brits will there to see it close up in living color to see the blood dripping.

I expect Bellew to take off like a scalded dog as soon as he gets hit hard for the first time by Miranda. The track shoes will be put literally and I expect Bellew to sprint around the ring to keep from getting hit by Miranda. There’s no shame in that. It’s all about survival, right? Miranda have to do a good job off cutting off the ring on Bellew so that he can put him out of his misery. We don’t want him running uselessly about the ring without any purpose.

I think Bellew his senses completely after he gets popped hard the first time, and he’s start moving in directions that make little sense. Bellew will likely be in a full panic at that point where thought goes out the window and the brain gets dislodged. It’ll be merciful when Miranda finally catches up to Bellew and blasts him out so that he can save his energy for other fights.

Miranda just hits too hard and Bellew doesn’t have the chin or the experience to take the kind of power that Miranda will be feeding him on September 8th. It’ll be a good learning experience for Bellew, and I expect him to be better for having taken the beating.
