Who Will Get The First Shot at Bermane Stiverne’s New WBC Title?

stiverne999999(Photo credit: Naoki Fakuda) Now that the ice has settled on Saturday night’s farcical heavyweight (so called) world title fight between Bermane Stiverne (24-1-1, 21 KO’s) and the pathetic Chris Arreola (36-4, 31 KO’s) I am going to discuss how important the future of this WBC heavyweight strap is going to be.

The fight on Saturday night didn’t teach us anything that we didn’t already know before this weekend as the unfit and over weight Stiverne had already easily beaten the slightly less out of shape, Arreola in very similar fashion last year. However under heavy influence from the American Dollar the WBC were urged to make them fight again for the world (American) title even though neither man has ever proved that he can mix it with elite level guys from Europe or the rest of the world. This was most probably a smoke screen anyway as at the same time the average Deontay Wilder was told that he would be the mandatory challenger to the cherry picked winner.

Haye: Deontay Wilder will easily KO Stiverne

deontay32 - Copy (2)By Scott Gilfoid: British fighter David Haye attended last night’s fight between Bermane Stiverne (24-1-1, 21 KO’s) and Chris Arreola (36-4, 31 KO’s) for the vacant WBC heavyweight title at the USC Galen Center, in Los Angeles, California, USA, and Haye says he didn’t see anything in Stiverne’s performance that would suggest that he can beat the WBC mandatory challenger Deontay Wilder (31-0, 31 KO’s) when it comes time for Stiverne to defend against him.

Right now it’s still unknown when Stiverne will take that fight with the 6’7″ Deontay, but he’s going to have to fight him sooner or later or else the WBC will strip him of the title.

Arreola a good stay busy fight for Deontay Wilder

arreola566(Photo credit: Carlos Baeza) By Scott Gilfoid: It’s looking more and more like the new WBC heavyweight champion Bermane Stiverne (24-1-1, 21 KO’s) will be steered around his WBC mandatory challenger Deontay Wilder (31-0, 31 KO’s) for the remainder of 2014. It’s quite possible that Stiverne will elect to take an optional title defense, as his powerful promoter Don King isn’t taking about putting him in with the 6’7″ Deontay.

It doesn’t really matter who Stiverne faces. If it’s not going to be Deontay, then you can bet that it’ll be a safe opponent, and definitely not IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko.

Deontay Wilder: Stiverne will be an easy fight for me

stiverne000(Photo credit: Carlos Baeza) By Scott Gilfoid: Now that Bermane Stiverne (24-1-1, 21 KO’s) has beaten Chris Arreola (36-4, 31 KO’s) in their rematch, Stiverne has to deal with the difficult task of trying to beat a much bigger, younger, faster, taller and more powerful Deontay Wilder (31-0, 31 KO’s) in the near future. How long it;s going to be before Deontay gets a shot at Stiverne’s WBC title is unknown. That’ll depend on how strict the World Boxing Council are with their rules. However, Deontay sees the short 6’1″ Stiverne as an easy fight for him due to his bad habit of staying on the outside and hanging on the ropes. Deontay feels that there isn’t a more perfect opponent for him to knock out.

“It was the same old Stiverne. It was the same one that I saw in the first fight,” Deontay said to RingTV.com. “It’s going to be an easy fight for me. Not just easy, I’m talking E Z. It’s not going the distance.”

Stiverne has optional defense coming, Deontay Wilder might have to wait for title shot

stiverne42111(Photo credit: Carlos Baeza) By Scott Gilfoid: It looks like unbeaten WBC mandatory challenger Deontay Wilder (31-0, 31 KO’s) may have to wait a while before he gets a crack at newly crowned WBC heavyweight champion Bermane Stiverne (24-1-1, 21 KO’s), because he has an optional title defense coming according to his promoter Don King. Steve Kim is reporting that King has “made it clear that Bermane Stiverne has an optional defense of the WBC title upcoming.”

If this turns out to be the case, then Deontay will likely have to wait until 2015 before he eventually gets a shot at Stiverne’s WBC title. Additionally, IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko wants to fight Stiverne in a unification fight, and that further will push Deontay’s title shot back as well.

Stiverne not looking past Arreola fight towards Deontay Wilder

stiverne33(Photo credit: Goosen Tutor) By Scott Gilfoid: #1 WBC Bermane Stiverne (23-1-1, 20 KO’s) isn’t looking past his opponent #2 WBC Chris Arreola (36-3, 31 KO’s) in their second and hopefully their last fight together this Saturday night at the Galen Center, in Los Angeles, California, USA. Stiverne whipped Arreola by a 12 round decision last year in April, but the WBC decided it would be a good idea for them to fight again for the vacant WBC heavyweight title after champion Vitali Klitschko vacated the strap this year.

The winner of the Arreola-Stiverne fight has to fight the WBC mandatory challenger Deontay Wilder (31-0, 31 KO’s) unless they can get the WBC to give them permission to face IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko in a unification bout, which is a distinct possibility given Wladimir’s interest in capturing that strap.

Deontay Wilder’s next opponent to be decided this Saturday

deontay11By Scott Gilfoid: This Saturday night we’re going to be seeing the next opponent for unbeaten heavyweight talent #3 WBC Deontay Wilder (31-0, 31 KO’s) in the rematch between #2 WBC Chris Arreola (36-3, 31 KO’s) and #1 WBC Bermane Stiverne (23-1-1, 20 KO’s) at the Galen Center, in Los Angeles, California, USA. In a indication of what Showtime and HBO thought of the Arreola-Stiverne rematch, they passed on the idea of televising the fight. Instead of the fight being televised on one of those cable giants, ESPN will be televising the fight on Saturday.

That’s kind of an indication that the World Boxing Council made a mistake of picking Arreola and Stiverne to fight for the vacant WBC title rather than someone like Deontay. It was only last year when Stiverne gave Arreola a pounding in winning an easy 12 round decision.

Lucas Browne looking to pass Deontay Wilder to fight for WBC title next

AUSSIE puncher Lucas “Big Daddy” Browne says he’d be prepared to step in against the winner of the upcoming WBC heavyweight title fight between Chris Arreola and Bermane Stiverne.

Deontay Wilder wants Wladimir Klitschko next

deontay4444By Scott Gilfoid: #3 WBC heavyweight contender Deontay Wilder (31-0, 31 KO’s) says he’d gladly face IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko next if the big 6’6″ Ukrainian is interested in facing him next, according to RingTV. “I would definitely take it,” said Deontay. With his huge punching power and his big 6’7″ size, Deontay will likely be ignored by Wladimir due to the danger involved for the Ukrainian.

Deontay is the mandatory challenger for the WBC belt, so he’ll be getting a crack at the winner of the Bermane Stiverne vs. Chris Arreola fight this year. If Deontay beats the Arreola-Stiverne winner, he’d be the new WBC champ, but he would be in a different lane as Wladimir. There’s a good chance that Wladimir wouldn’t bother trying to unify the belt if Deontay is the WBC champion, because with his huge size, fast hands and one punch power, Deontay is someone who could spoil Wladimir’s party with a single shot.

Mike Tyson comments on Deontay Wilder

wilder23 - CopyBy Scott Gilfoid: Earlier today, former heavyweight champion of the world Mike Tyson made a comment about unbeaten heavyweight contender Deontay Wilder (31-0, 31 KO’s), saying that he wants to see how the 6’7” Deontay will react when he faces someone that will punch him back. Deontay then fired back with some comments of his own, and this led to James Toney joining in by telling Deontay he was off base for returning fire on Tyson.

Mike Tyson said this about Deontay as quoted by Showtime: “We have to see what happens when he [Deontay] gets hit back. Anyone can knock someone out, even my 3-year-old son.”
