Lemieux splitting with Michel, wants Canelo, Cotto, and Golovkin bouts

lemieux1By Dan Ambrose: #2 WBC, #3 WBO, #5 IBF, #13 WBA middleweight contender David Lemieux (33-2, 31 KOs) is reportedly splitting with his promoter Yvon Michel. Lemieux doesn’t yet have a new promoter that he’s ready to sign with, but it’s likely whoever he chooses, they’ll be able to televise his fights on HBO.

Lemieux, 26, will need to be able to fight on HBO in the United States if he wants to be able to face the big names like Miguel Cotto, Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin. Those are the guys that Lemieux is currently targeting in the 160 pound division.

Before this fight, he was known mostly to hardcore boxing fans in the U.S. If he can continue to bring in good numbers on HBO then a future fight between him and WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin will be a big success for HBO.

Lemieux: I’m not afraid of Golovkin

lemieux1By Dan Ambrose: #2 WBC, #5 IBF, #8 WBO middleweight contender David Lemieux (33-2, 31 KOs) did his part last Saturday in stopping the always tough Gabriel Rosado (21-9, 13 KOs) in the 10th round of a back and forth fight at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Referee Steve Willis halted the fight with Rosado, 28, still on his feet and fighting back in the 10th. You can make a strong argument that the fight deserved to continue on because Rosado was definitely still fighting back at the time of the stoppage. But ignoring the controversial ending, Lemieux said he’s open to fighting Gennady Golovkin, Miguel Cotto and Peter Quillin. Lemieux specifically said that he’s not afraid to fight Golovkin, and that he only wants to fight the best.

David Lemieux IS a threat at middleweight

lemieux55By Sarkis Aghbashian: First off all, I just want to start off by saying what a great show both David Lemieux (33-2-31KOs) and Gabriel Rosado (21-9-13 KOs) put on December 6th, at the Barclays center in Brooklyn, which aired on HBO. Especially the 4th round, this round should be listed among the top 10 best rounds of 2014. Two true warriors not being afraid to hit and get hit. But in the end, David won by a 10th round TKO.

Lemieux’s body shots in the early rounds paid him dividends for the later rounds and his power shots almost blinded Rosado’s left eye. Rosado’s determination was felt during each round, which keeps us respecting this boxer even more.

Lemieux needs win over Rosado to get in position for Canelo and Golovkin fights

lemieuxBy Allan Fox: #2 WBC, #5 IBF, #8 WBO middleweight contender David Lemieux (32-2, 30 KOs) will be fighting battle-hardened former world title challenger Gabriel Rosado (21-8, 13 KOs) on December 6 on HBO’s Boxing After Dark from the Barclays Center, in Brooklyn, New York, USA.

Lemieux, 25, needs a win over Rosado to keep alive his dreams of getting big money fights against the likes of Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and WBA Super middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin. A loss to Rosado would be a huge setback for Lemieux, because it would remove virtually any chance of him getting Golovkin or Canelo to agree to fight him.

Lemieux’s career previously took a huge hit in 2011 when he was beaten in back to back fights against Marco Antonio Rubio and Joachim Alcine. Lemieux has supposedly fixed the problems that led him to defeats in those fights in improving his stamina.
