David Lemieux IS a threat at middleweight

lemieux55By Sarkis Aghbashian: First off all, I just want to start off by saying what a great show both David Lemieux (33-2-31KOs) and Gabriel Rosado (21-9-13 KOs) put on December 6th, at the Barclays center in Brooklyn, which aired on HBO. Especially the 4th round, this round should be listed among the top 10 best rounds of 2014. Two true warriors not being afraid to hit and get hit. But in the end, David won by a 10th round TKO.

Lemieux’s body shots in the early rounds paid him dividends for the later rounds and his power shots almost blinded Rosado’s left eye. Rosado’s determination was felt during each round, which keeps us respecting this boxer even more.

Now that David received the public’s attention, especially in the States being his first fight in the U.S., what’s next for him? If nobody is answering the phone calls of Gennady Golovkin GGG (31-0-28 KOs) and David is willing to fight him, why not simply match them up? They both have a 70 inch reach. GGG’s height is 5 foot 10 and a half and David is 5 foot 9 and a half.

GGG has 28 KOs and David has 31 KOs. If this fight ever happens in 2015, you know there won’t be any dancing around in circles inside the ring. Two power punchers going at it, which will make any boxing fan very happy and it will also be beneficial for HBO. Now you might be asking yourself: last October, GGG beat Marco Antonio Rubio (59-7-1-59KOs) by a 2nd round KO and in 2011, Lemieux lost by TKO against Rubio. So Lemieux has no chance against GGG?

In my defence I could say, Lemieux was only 22 years old back then. Lemieux was winning the early rounds until he started getting tired in the 6th round and by the 7th round he got caught by a straight left shot that hit him behind his left ear and caused him to lose his equilibrium. Now that you can throw David’s stamina’s problem out the window, Lemieux is a threat to any top middleweight.

I’m not taking away anything from GGG, he is a great boxer. But as I said in my last article, he still never faced a boxer that has real power in both hands. That’s why this match up is a MUST in 2015, and it might be the fight of this upcoming year. We finally have someone that could give serious trouble to GGG and maybe pull the upset against him.
