Danny Garcia vs. Lucas Matthysse confrmed for Mayweather/Canelo undercard on September 14th!

garcia43By Dallas Orysiuk One of boxing’s most anticipated matchups of the year has just been confirmed for what is sure to be the biggest boxing event of 2013. Just moments ago Richard Schaefer finally announced that Danny “Swift” Garcia (26-0, 16 KOs) will face Lucas “the Machine” Matthysse (34-2, 32 KOs) on September 14th on the Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Canelo Alvarez undercard.

This fight is so big that it will be having its own 3 city press tour. Many are expecting that this will be one of the biggest PPV cards ever. Especially with the potential for a Austin Trout vs. Erislandy Lara matchup also on the undercard, this PPV is going to be huge.

Schaefer to make announcement tomorrow, Danny Garcia vs. Lucas Matthysse likely done

matthysse84By Dan Ambrose: Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer will be making an important announcement tomorrow, and it’s thought that he’ll be revealing that the fight between WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia 26-0, 16 KO’s) and WBC interim light welterweight champion Lucas Matthysse (34-2, 32 KO’s) is a done deal for the Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Saul “Canelo” Alvarez fight card on September 14th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Schaefer told NYFightBlog today that he wanted to finish the Garcia-Matthysse fight negotiations before he left for Saturday’s trip to Dubai to set up the venue for the Amir Khan vs. Devon Alexander fight for December 7th. It would seem that Schaefer has finished the Garcia vs. Matthysse deal and is ready to announce it.

“Mile High” on Mike

alvarado3By Chris Rooks: Most boxing analysis, articles, and blogs suggest it’s down to two select ‘contenders for supremacy’ in the light welterweight division. Danny Garcia and Lucas Matthysse are supposed to settle it in their possible upcoming fight as the championship match of the 140 pound tournament Golden Boy has been putting on.

Amir Khan’s glass chin has been repeatedly exposed, particularly by Garcia. Zab Judah lost to both Garcia and Matthysse, except that was only reflected on one of the scorecards, and most people think current IBF Welterweight Champ Devon Alexander also lost to Matthysse. Amir Khan conqueror Lamont Peterson was recently annihilated by Matthysse in less than 3 rounds.

Lucas Matthysse vs. Danny Garcia possible for Mayweather-Canelo undercard

garcia5645By Eric Thomas: According to Steve Kim, the huge fight between WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia (26-0, 16 KO’s) and WBC interim light welterweight champion Lucas Matthysse (34-2, 32 KO’s) could end up on the September 14th undercard of the Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Saul “Canelo” Alvarez fight at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

If so, this will make this PPV card well worth the $64.95 asking price, and it could help boost the PPV numbers. You have to assume that the Garcia-Matthysse fight would be the co-feature bout on the card, unless Golden Boy has something even bigger than that they’re keeping under wraps. I doubt it.

Is Danny Garcia avoiding a showdown with Lucas Matthysse?

garcia3By Dallas Orysiuk Fear is an unpleasant emotion because the idea that someone or something will pose a danger towards you, likely resulting in pain or a threat. Is Danny “Swift” Garcia showing that emotion at the thought of stepping into the ring with “The Machine” Lucas Matthysse?

The danger is “The Machine”; the pain will be felt by Garcia on his face and body because of Matthysse’s tremendous power. The threat Matthysse poses is towards Danny’s unbeaten record, his hype and his WBC, WBA (super) and Ring Magazine light-welterweight belts.

When Matthysse impressively stopped Lamont Peterson in the third round, you could see what appeared to be fear Garcia’s face, you could see it in his awkward smirk.

Danny Garcia vs. Zab Judah 2 possible for October

garcia5645(Danny Garcia seen here looking stunned right after watching Lucas Matthysse destroy Lamont Peterson by a 3rd round TKO last May)By Dan Ambrose: Former two division world champion Zab Judah (42-8, 29 KO’s) is saying there’s a good chance that he’ll be fighting WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia (26-0, 16 KO’s) in a rematch in October rather than fighting WBC interim light welterweight champion.

This is pretty surprising and not surprising at the same time. It’s surprising because Garcia was supposed to be fighting interim WBC light welterweight champion Lucas Matthysse. Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer had been working on trying to make that fight recently.

Judah said this when asked by thaboxingvoice if he will be facing Garcia in October: “There’s a good possibility.”

Matthysse’s manager targeting Amir Khan after Danny Garcia

matthysse84By Dan Ambrose: WBC interim light welterweight champion Lucas Matthysse’s manager Mario Arano figures Matthysse will be a super star after his next fight against WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia on September 7th, if Garcia agrees to the fight. Arano sees Matthysse knocking Garcia out.

He then wants to match Mathsse against Amir Khan if Golden Boy Promotions can help set up that fight. Khan has already gone on record saying he wants the fight with Matttysse and thinks he has the style to beat him. This would be a good chance for Khan to prove it by facing Matthysse instead of just talking about it.

Matthysse looks for Danny Garcia

matthysse564By Robbie Bannatyne: After light welterweight Lucas Matthysse knocked Lamont Peterson’s lights out in the 3rd round of their encounter on Saturday night in Atlantic City, New Jersey, Paulie Malignaggi, Showtime analyst and current welterweight champion, gushed “It is literally like a bomb exploding every time he lands a punch.”

And much like his punches, Matthysse the man, is also like a bomb that has been waiting to go off.

It seems like the top light-welterweights signed an unofficial treaty to deny Matthysse the chance to take them on for their titles, as his two bouts with Zab Judah and Devon Alexander apart, he spent the vast majority of his career in the wilderness of his homeland, Argentina: boxing’s equivalent of Siberia.
