garcia5645(Danny Garcia seen here looking stunned right after watching Lucas Matthysse destroy Lamont Peterson by a 3rd round TKO last May)By Dan Ambrose: Former two division world champion Zab Judah (42-8, 29 KO’s) is saying there’s a good chance that he’ll be fighting WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia (26-0, 16 KO’s) in a rematch in October rather than fighting WBC interim light welterweight champion.

This is pretty surprising and not surprising at the same time. It’s surprising because Garcia was supposed to be fighting interim WBC light welterweight champion Lucas Matthysse. Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer had been working on trying to make that fight recently.

Judah said this when asked by thaboxingvoice if he will be facing Garcia in October: “There’s a good possibility.”

It’s not surprising to me at least that Garcia might be fighting Judah again because Garcia hasn’t seemed at all eager to face Matthysse. In past interviews he’s had, Garcia has acted like didn’t see that as interesting fight. Also, Garcia looked stunned after Matthysse destroyed Lamont Peterson in three rounds last month on May 18th.

Garcia was in the audience at the time and he looked shell-shocked moments after Matthysse had knocked Peterson out. I thought to myself that I couldn’t see Garcia agreeing to a fight with Matthysse, and I might end up being right if Garcia ends up fighting Judah.

It’s not that the Judah-Garcia fight is a bad one, because it was a good fight, but the thought was that Garcia was going to face Matthysse next, not Judah for a second time. That just looks like Garcia is ducking the fight with Matthysse – or maybe Golden Boy is ducking the fight because Garcia is arguably a more popular fighter than Matthysse, so if Garcia is beaten by Matthysse, Golden Boy loses out by having one of their popular fighters beaten.

I don’t know about you but I don’t want to see Danny Garcia vs. Zab Judah next. I wouldn’t mind seeing it in the future in a year from now, but I’d rather see Garcia fight Matthysse next. I hope Golden Boy doesn’t shove Garcia-Judah down the throats of boxing fans on SHowtime because that’s not fans want to see. Put that rematch on ESPN2 or something and let’s see something interesting.
