Khan has unfinished business with Lamont Peterson and Danny Garcia

khan88By Scott Bells: So Amir Khan thinks he deserves a shot with Floyd Mayweather Jr and Manny Pacquiao? Looking at his clear boxing skills and excellent speed, I actually think he could give both a competitive fight, however just because you could be competitive doesn’t mean you deserve it.

As an Englishmen, I would love to see the fight, but if I were Amir Khan, I would be pushing and pushing my promoter to get me back into the ring with either Lamont Peterson or Danny Garcia.

De La Hoya to make Danny Garcia vs. Lamont Peterson in early 2015

garcia67By Dan Ambrose: Oscar De La Hoya of Golden Boy Promotions says he’s going to try and put together a unification fight between WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia (29-0, 17 KOs) and IBF 147lb title holder Lamont Peterson (33-2-1, 17 KOs) for early 2015.

This is a fight that should have been made in 2014, but instead Garcia’s adviser Al Haymon matched him against the much smaller lightweight Rod Salka in a fight that turned out to be a dreadful mismatch last August.

Reviewing the pound for pound picture

floyd93By James Sexton: It was a long time ago that the ‘pound for pound’ rankings were created to put Ray Robinson’s performances and achievements into perspective. Today, Ring magazine, (owned by Golden Boy Promotions) and many other sporting writers and websites use the formula to keep track of the most decorated athletes in the sport.

After the success of boxing in 2013, 2014 has seemed like a lackluster year and many find their lists are starting to take a different shape for the first time in a while.

Provodnikov targeting Maidana, Matthysse and Danny Garcia for next fight on March 28th

provodnikov034By Dan Ambrose: #2 WBO light welterweight contender Ruslan Provodnikov (24-3, 17 KOs) will be back in the ring in the next three months on March 28th in a fight that will take place at a still to be determined venue in the United States.

Provodnikov, 30, is hoping that he can get one of the following fighters to agree to face him: Marcos Maidana, Danny Garcia or Lucas Matthysse. The problem is that those fighters are managed by Al Haymon, and it’s highly doubtful that Haymon will bother setting them up for a dangerous fight against a slugger like Provodnikov when there’s not much of any upside.

Danny Garcia wouldn’t stand a chance against Algieri, says Arum

garcia434By Chris Williams: Manny Pacquiao (56-5-2, 38 KOs) and his trainer Freddie Roach both are very interested in a future bout against WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia (29-0, 17 KOs). Roach sees Garcia as the perfect opponent for Pacquiao due to the way Garcia loads up with his left hooks, and swings for the fences each time he throws a punch.

Roach thinks Pacquiao would do well against a fighter like Garcia. Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum, however, doesn’t think Garcia could even beat Chris Algieri (20-0, 8 KOs), who will be facing Pacquiao next on November 22nd in Macau, China. Arum thinks Garcia would be out of his element in a fight against the 5’10” Algieri.

Postol agrees to step aside for Danny Garcia

garcia565By Dan Ambrose: #1 WBC Viktor Postol (26-0, 11 KOs) has reportedly received a bonus to step aside so that WBC/WBA light welterweight champion Danny Garcia (29-0, 17 KOs) can fight another opponent within the next 4 months. Postol can fight whoever he wishes during that time, but after that Garcia has within 90 days to fight Postol, according to Dan Rafael of ESPN.

If Garcia doesn’t face Postol within that 90 days then presumably he’ll be stripped by the World Boxing Council if Garcia doesn’t vacate his WBC title first, which is highly likely. It’s unknown how much money Postol received in order to step aside but it’s likely a significant amount of money.
