garcia67By Dan Ambrose: The purse bid for the Viktor Postol (26-0, 11 KOs) and WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia (29-0, 17 KOs) has been moved again by the World Boxing Council (WBC), according to Dan Rafael of ESPN.

The date was supposed to have been on October 6th, but it’s now been moved to October 20th. This is the 4th time the purse bid has been moved. It was originally supposed to take place on September 12th. It was then moved to October 1st, and then October 6th. It’s now scheduled for October 20th.

“Garcia-Postol purse bid moved yet again. By my count this is 4th date: 9/12, 10/1, 10/6, now 10/20. I bet this fight never happens. #boxing,” said Rafael on his twitter.

What’s interesting is that the WBC is allowing the purse bids to keep getting moved over and over again without them putting their foot down and not budging.

What we don’t need is a replay of the Peter Quillin – Matt Korobov purse bids which kept getting moved until the WBO finally got firm and stopped giving Quillin extensions. At that point he opted to give up his WBO title. Quillin and Danny Garcia have the same adviser in Al Haymon. It’s unclear what is gained by having purse bids moved continually like a game without end. At some point the WBC will need to make up their mind whether they want this to go on forever or if they’re going to end it at some point.

Rafael thinks the Garcia vs. Postol fight will never happen, and I’m in full agreement with him. I think Garcia will eventually vacate his WBC title at the end of this process once the WBC stops pushing the purse bids and gets firm with him.

I’m not sure what Garcia will do at that point. He’ll either keep defending his WBA title or he’ll move up in weight to 147 and try and get a fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr or Manny Pacquiao.
